Since October, we’ve watched women over 50 compete for 61-year-old Barry “Bear” Myrden’s heart on Channel 9’s Golden Bachelor. But forget the fairytale ending, it’s the friendships between the women that has us hooked.
We sat down with top five contestant Jan Herdman, 67, who opened up about how the show taught her to trust women again, the secret to her youthful skin, and the scariest part of joining the show.
After discovering her husband’s infidelity, 40-year-old Jan found herself single. “I thought my life was over”. But after throwing herself into an intensive 12-week fitness program, Jan’s life started to turn around.
“I got up on stage in a bikini and hooker heels and a tan and that was when I totally changed my opinion of myself.”
Now the founder of Ageless Transformations, Jan helps other women transform their lives after 50.
So why would a strong, successful woman who has experienced infidelity sign up for a reality show centred on competing with other women?
“I was scared about going into a house with 19 other women and I was scared about competing for the same man because I don’t compete, it’s not in my nature. And then I experienced 20 women in a house where we all got on, we laughed so much and now we’re all such good friends.”
Jan also shared her favourite skincare products, the best fitness equipment for beginners, and her best unsexy beauty hack.
