I’d already heard lots of good things about Koala products but was a little hesitant mainly because of the higher price point.
At $1990 for a 3-seater, I can honestly say it’s worth paying that little bit extra this time around for the value that you get with the Koala Cushy sofa bed.
That’s because right now, I have a pretty busy lifestyle and working week, and I love coming home to rest and recharge.
Particularly during winter, I really look forward to putting on the ugg boots and my Oodie and settling in for a chilled night of a movie, streaming a series or some gaming.
My sofa receives a lot of mileage in this way, and after a long day on my feet, I’m pleased to say that the Koala Cushy Sofa Bed has become a welcomed part of my evenings, and is worth your attention.

I’ve been testing the Koala Cushy Sofa Bed for about three weeks now, and using it primarily as a traditional sofa after getting home from a busy day at work or being out and about.

FULL REVIEW OF THE KOALA CUSHY SOFA BED
Delivery and set-up
The whole delivery process was easy and seamless with fantastic customer service from Koala.
After receiving an order confirmation (where I’d also selected the delivery date and time), I received a confirmation from Koala, as well as a tracking number from the courier company bringing the Koala Cushy sofa bed to my apartment.
On the day of the delivery, the window was 10am to 2pm, I had to leave the house by 1pm for an appointment and the courier company was really accommodating and got the items to be by 12:30pm, which I really appreciated.
The following day, I had some help from my roommate setting up everything.
I think that I could have done this by myself but having the extra set of hands made the process quite speedy, and everything was done in about 15 minutes.
You also don’t need to have any extra tools, everything you need to assemble the Koala Cushy sofa bed is included inside the boxes.
Similar to my recent review of the Emma Comfort Plus mattress, the mattress section of the Koala Cushy Sofa Bed is compressed and rolled up, and once you take this out of the box it expands very quickly.
We found that by the time we’d assembled the base and sides of the sofa bed base, the mattress was ready to be fitted, with velcro straps keeping everything in place.
In my case too, the Koala Cushy Sofa bed was pretty much ready to use as soon as I’d assembled it.
There was a lot of leftover cardboard, but using a boxcutter I was able to condense these all done and take them out to the recycling bins for collection.
For an additional fee, customers in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane metro locations can also select a premium delivery option, and that includes assembly and rubbish removal.
How comfortable is a Koala Cushy Sofa Bed?
It’s not a massive stretch to say that the Koala Cushy Sofa Bed is a perfect mix of plush and comfort.
A lot of this comes down to quality materials used in the construction of the cushioned armrests and backrest.
I’ve been sprawled out on the sofa in a number of different ways, lying both long ways to watch a movie, and cosying up in a corner with a coffee and a good book. I literally don’t want to leave this couch.
On one occasion I’ve been able to set up the sofa bed in mere seconds, and the quality of the mattress was also notably great.
I would also happily set this up for any friends or family staying the night, and feel confident they would have a great quality of sleep on this product.
The Fig Tree colour I selected uses a premium fabric blend that’s soft to touch and also feels luxurious and a little bit extra, while the materials used in the cushioning manages to strike a great balance of bounciness and support.
Some reviews online have criticised the design of the actual sofa bed component, saying that when folded up as a couch, the cushions bow forward and don’t make for a comfortable fit during use.
While I did notice this issue to some extent as well, I would say that as long as you make sure the cushions are properly folded in, you shouldn’t have any major issues here.
The Koala Cushy sofa bed was also a lot higher in height compared to my previous couch, raising the cushion height by an extra 20-30 centimetres.
For the first few days I couldn’t really work out that major difference, but once that clicked in, I became used to it, and now love coming home to relax and unwind after a long day.

How to care for a Koala Cushy sofa bed
Regular care
For regular care on a weekly basis, vacuum regularly using low suction, and protect the Koala Cushy sofa bed from direct sunlight.
Spot cleaning
- Remove any spills immediately.
- Use a mild detergent to gently remove any loose soilage.
- Do not scrub with a steel brush.
- Use a clean cloth to blot out any excess liquid.
- Avoid over wetting as this may result in a water mark.
- Allow the fabric to dry in a well ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
- You can also Pretest the cleaning method on a hidden area of the sofa. If there’s a change
- in colour or transfer, do not continue.
Pilling
Pilling can occur occasionally as a result of normal daily wear and shouldn’t be considered a fault. Fibre pills can be removed by using a battery operated pilling tool, which is available from most haberdashery stores.
VERDICT: SHOULD YOU BUY THE KOALA CUSHY SOFA BED?
As a major household purchase, a sofa bed needs to strike a good balance across comfort, style and longevity, and I’m happy to say that the Koala Cushy sofa bed delivers on all of these fronts.
Not only does it look great, the 3-seater model in Fig Tree is super comfortable and plush to sit on, and is well worth the high price of $1990.
It’s a strong example of Koala really upholding its reputation for producing desirable, high quality products that look and feel great.
While I have been only using this product for a few weeks, I am confident this will stand the test of time.
The colour choice was a major factor for me, and I found that the dark green shade of Fig Tree has paired well with other furnishings in my living room, while still shining and standing out as a statement piece in its own right.
I also really liked the other colours on offer across the range, and liked the option of purchasing a Koala Cushy Sofa Bed Ottoman if you’re wanting additional storage space in your living room, or were also looking for an L-shape sofa – this would be a happy compromise.
Additionally, the customer service experience was excellent, and I am equally impressed with the 120-night trial and five year warranty.
But let’s be honest, this Koala Cushy sofa bed will be staying in captivity for many years to come.
