We spend around a third of our lives sleeping, so it’s important to pick a high quality mattress that offers a blend of optimal comfort and support.

That’s where the Emma Comfort Plus Mattress has come into my life.

I’ll be honest, despite its promises of an energising and restful sleep experience, I was a little sceptical at first and unsure if this would be the right fit for me.

That’s mainly because I’d never tried a mattress-in-a-box product, and felt this wouldn’t live up to the hype, particularly when compared to the other box spring mattresses I’ve slept on for most of my life.

However, I can happily say that on this occasion, I’ve been proven wrong, the Emma Comfort Plus has exceeded my expectations and has left me on a little cloud each morning.

What You Need To Know

I’m very happy with this product and have no hesitation in recommending the Emma Comfort Plus to others.

Right now it’s the middle of winter in Sydney and I’m feeling pretty good about hitting snooze on my alarms a few times each morning. Stretching out my time in bed has a lot to do with this mattress, and one of its big selling points is its design.

The upper layers of Aerofoam, MemoryAdapt foam, and Comfort HRX foam absorb body heat and promote airflow, moulding to your body for even distribution of body weight, regardless of your sleeping position.

Meantime, the use of edge-to-edge infinity springs is said to provide personalised alignment and support, and it’s left me feeling well-rested when I wake up each morning.

Having slept on my prior mattress for around seven years, this was one of the first things I noticed after making the switch.

HOW WE EVALUATED THE MATTRESS

FULL REVIEW OF THE EMMA COMFORT II MATTRESS

The “Emma Comfort II Plus Mattress”, promises “full body support and cradling” alongside “advanced motion isolation for undisturbed sleep”.

Delivery and set-up

Communication from the company was excellent.

After placing the order I received a confirmation email from Emma, confirming the day of delivery with contact numbers for customer support if needed to reach out for any reason.

On the morning of the delivery, I received a text message around 8am from the courier, which also included a tracking number and live location link to track the progress of the driver.

Usually you’re given around a four hour window for the product to arrive, so I was very pleased to receive a call at 11am the delivery had arrived, and also received help getting the box up several flights of stairs into my apartment.

The box is reasonably heavy and I asked my roommate to help take it from my living room into my bedroom, however if I was solo I could have taken it there myself with no dramas.

Looks are deceiving, as the mattress is vacuum-compressed down into the cardboard box, which also shortens its width, however don’t worry about this, the product expands fully once opened.

And on that note, once you take the mattress out of the box and roll it out, it will expand very quickly, so make sure you’ve already set up your bed frame (or removed your old mattress).

For this part of the process, I managed to do all of this solo, and didn’t need a hand. I had also initially placed the mattress upside down on my bed base and didn’t need assistance to flip it.

Having only ever used box-spring mattresses in the past, the one thing I wasn’t used to is that you need to allow at least five hours for the product to fully expand before use.

But if you unbox the Emma Comfort Plus early to midafternoon, that will give you plenty of time ahead of using it later that night.

How comfortable is an Emma Comfort Plus mattress?

My previous mattress had a pocket spring design, which I was actually really happy with, and I wanted a similar product that would deliver on firmness and support.

Thankfully, its comfort is one of its biggest selling points. The first time I sat down on the product, I noticed that different parts of my body including my back and hips felt a great sense of relaxation and support. It’s luxurious and comfortable even sitting on the bed.

The memory foam used in the mattress shapes gently to your body, and also feels plush and cozy. It was an instant “oh, I quite like this” sense that caught me by surprise.

Because I spent quite a long time sitting at work, and also aim to keep quite active in my down time, one of the things I was looking for in a mattress is the right level of support to help my body recover and rejuvenate.

The first few nights of using the Emma Comfort Plus mattress I’d wondered if the mattress was too soft for my liking, but after about a fortnight of use, I felt that my body has adjusted accordingly, and I was also surprised to find after catching 40 winks I was waking feeling very refreshed.

Other features of the Emma Comfort Plus mattress

Great breathability

Designed with Australia’s climate in mind, the Infinity pocket springs regulate and promote maximum airflow, while the breathable foam layers in the mattress allow for a humid-free sleep all-year round.

Full body support and cradling

The 7-zoned mattress Pluss to your body’s shape with Halo Memory Foam™, giving support to your back, shoulders and hips with a softer feel.

Advanced motion isolation for undisturbed sleep

Three layers of foam used in the Emma Comfort Plus Mattress work with pocket springs to give better pressure distribution and motion isolation during sleep. This means that movement on one side of the bed is confined and you don’t feel it on the other side, which makes the Comfort Plus a great choice for couples.

VERDICT: SHOULD YOU BUY THE EMMA COMFORT PLUS MATTRESS?

If you’re looking for a plush mattress which balances comfort and support, the Emma Comfort Plus mattress is an excellent choice.

Priced at $703.45 for a Queen size mattress, it’s also great value and competitive when compared to other mattresses out there on the market.

Equally, as the basic model of Emma mattresses (there’s also the Luxe Breeze and Luxe Pro), it holds its own if you’re looking for a high quality mattress, and with the awards and accolades to back this up.

I felt like all of the key selling points of the product - including its breathability, support and focus around motion isolation also all lived up to expectations.

The one thing I’d say is that the cushioning was a little softer than I was used to, but after a fortnight of use, this is now the last thing on my mind.

I can’t remember ever previously saying how much I was looking forward to sleep, that’s all changed with the Emma Comfort Plus mattress.
