Spring is always a welcome change.
With warmer days ahead it’s time to stow away our trackie pants and get a parade of breezy, colourful spring items into our closets.
So what will the biggest trends be this warm season? We asked fashion experts for their predictions.
POLKA DOTS
If you’re not a fan of investing in trends that will be null and void in two months’ time, we have good news – polka dots will be in high rotation this warm season. “There are prints that come and go and prints, like the polka dot, that stand the test of time – usually after an ‘unprecedented time’ we see designers incorporating more timeless prints and classic pieces in their collections,” says stylist Brooke Falvey.

PUFF SLEEVES
There’s something very whimsical and optimistic about puff sleeves and you’ll be seeing them everywhere soon. “We’ve been seeing oversized sleeves on the catwalks for a while and this trend continues into spring,” says Forever New’s managing director, Carolyn Mackenzie.

SEVENTIES STYLE

NEW TEXTURES
A major spring trend will lie in the feel of our fabric. “Textures and natural fibre fabrications are key for the season,” says Carolyn. “We’re seeing a big resurgence to jersey dressing, across all guises from rib fabrications to organic cottons. In contrast to this, we’ve backed cutwork broderies and gingham textures, to add some playful fun to the collections.”

How can I pick the perfect polka dot style item for me?
“When it comes to picking your polka dots, don’t be afraid to experiment with size and colour or even opt for a mix of polka dot sizes — a look that can work exceptionally well if you stick to reverse colours,” recommends Brooke. “And don’t be afraid to pair your spots with stripes or florals for a fun print clash.”
How can I pull off the puff sleeve look?
“The puff sleeve creates a modern play on proportion that is equal parts flattering and feminine,” says Carolyn. “Bold sleeves look best paired with minimalist accessories.”
Choose a fine chain necklace or subtle earrings to let your puff sleeves get the attention they deserve. Plus, search for different variations of puff sleeves to try. “Look for puff sleeve dresses, blouses with Bishop sleeves, soft silhouettes and volume,” says Tina.
How can I style a ribbed singlet?
“The ribbed singlet could be this year’s MVP because it goes with everything,” says Brooke. “It’s simple and chic. Thrown on with tracksuit pants? Yes. Layered under a well cut blazer for work? Yes. Paired back with blue jeans and topped off with layers of delicate gold necklaces or even a chunky choker? Yes.”
