We try the Peppy Co LED Mask that delivers glowing skin

It’s the skincare gadget that’s been touted as a treatment for dull, acne-prone, and ageing skin – and it comes at a fraction of the cost of its competitors.

This $163 device claims to rival the anti-ageing and rejuvenating effects of its $600+ competitors – so we put it to the test. Image: supplied.

No, it’s not the headpiece of a minimalist Iron Man costume – as the name implies, the Peppy Co LED Light Therapy Mask harnesses the power of LED lights to tackle the signs of ageing, as well as breakouts, inflammation and sun damage.

The futuristic-looking beauty device isn’t the first of its kind, but it’s certainly one of the cheapest at $163.

It replicates the light therapy treatments you might get during a fancy, expensive facial, and it’s a much more affordable alternative to other at-home beauty devices like the $340 LightStim machines, the $325 Trophy Skin RejuvaliteMD and Dr. Dennis Gross’ Spectralite Faceware Pro, which comes in at a whopping $665.

The celeb-approved mask (Abbie Chatfield, MAFS’ Martha Kalifatidis and Roxy Jacenko count themselves as fans) can be used a few times per week for a dose of skin-boosting self-care, but if you’re wondering how exactly it works, read on for the full breakdown – and the Best Of team’s reviews.

PEPPY CO LED LIGHT THERAPY MASK REVIEW

So how does it work? The Peppy Co LED Light Therapy Mask allows you to choose from certain wavelengths (in other words, the different LED colours) that work on a cellular level to target specific activity in different layers of the epidermis and promote a healthier appearance. Blue light banishes acne-causing bacteria; red light promotes collagen and prevents wrinkles; and yellow light works to detoxify skin, while preventing sun damage and pigmentation.

Peppy Co says users can expect to see glowier skin after the first three to four treatments, with complete results (plumper skin, reduced acne and an improvement in fine lines and wrinkles) after 12 treatments.

HOW DO YOU USE THE PEPPY CO LED MASK?

Using the mask is as easy as plugging it in, sliding it on your face, selecting which light treatment you want and relaxing while it works its magic. The mask automatically switches off after your 10-minute session, and you can do up to three sessions at a time – enough to do a round of each colour treatment.

DOES THE PEPPY CO LED MASK WORK?

If all this sounds much to good to be true, worry not – because according to the device’s many steadfast fans, it’s well worth the money. Its 4.3 out of five-star average rating on THE ICONIC is made up of glowing reviews (pun intended), with one writing “I really love this product. I use it every day if I can and I notice immediate results. For me, 20 minutes under the red light noticeably firms and plumps my skin. A lot quicker results than using face creams and serums to achieve the same effect”.

News.com.au Commercial Writer Jessica Wang and Best Of Shopping Reporter Dani Maher have both given the device a whirl. Read on for their reviews:

“Personally, I’ve been testing the mask out for three weeks and have seen improvements in skin texture and a reduction in redness. While I haven’t been using it long enough for a full-fledged review (watch this space), I definitely think my face looks glowier after a 30 minute session.

The only drawback – and this is more of a personal issue than a problem with the product – is that you can’t really do anything while wearing the mask, due to the design. But hey, I’m looking at it as a way to build up that meditation and mindfulness practice I keep meaning to do and as way to get through my podcast and audio book queue. Ironically the first ‘book’ on my list is Atomic Habits by James Clear.

“The Peppy Co LED Light Therapy Mask has surprised me. It has a much lower price point than its competitors, and out of the box it doesn’t look like the most hi-tech device, but so far it seems to live up to the hype.

I have combination acne-prone skin that I try to keep under control with a strict skincare regimen, so the fact that the mask claims to clear breakouts and boost glow definitely appeals to me. I haven’t used it long enough to take full advantage of the results it promises, but after each session, I do feel like my skin looks a little more healthy and glowy. I’m keen to keep using it to see if it gets my acne under control, too.

Like Jess, my only issue with the mask is the fact that it kind of forces you to do nothing during each session. That might suit some people, but personally I prefer to chill out with a good book or whichever TV series I’m currently binge-watching. I tried to use the opportunity to get into audiobooks, podcasts, and meditation apps, which I discovered aren’t really for me, but hey – at least it forced me to slow down for a bit. And while some other LED masks have gaps for you to see through, they all come at a significantly higher cost, so I’d rather enjoy the affordable Peppy Co option and force myself to have some zen time.”

Need more convincing? Many fans have also said the mask is great for tackling breakouts and reducing redness.

“Love this product and so glad I got it! Has helped reduce the redness of my rosacea and helped revitalise my dry, dull skin. Recommend this product to anyone with dry, sensitive skin and rosacea,” wrote one five-star reviewer.

“So happy with my Peppy Mask. Must admit was a bit sceptical but I started to see results quite quickly and have had many comments on my skin recently. Loved it so much bought another for my daughter,” shared another.

“I have always been extremely sceptical of these sorts of products. And although this isn’t like having a light therapy session at a salon, this magical product does in fact work. I get quite bad perioral dermatitis on my chin and after each session it has started to diminish more and more. I love it!”
