LED masks may be a pricey beauty investment but boy, do they treat a variety of skin concerns.
Wrinkles, acne, fine lines, dark spots, skin texture and more. Oh, and the best part? You can sit back, relax and enjoy the treatment from the comfort of your own home. How luxe!
Formerly, these at-home beauty devices were only accessible upon visits to cosmetologists or dermatologists. Unsurprisingly, they’re popular with celebrities too, with famous faces like Bella Hadid, Kourtney Kardashian, Chrissy Teigen, Jessica Alba and Emma Stone all fans of them.
They also make for a great (and slightly terrifying) selfie — need we say more?
If you are looking to invest in this latest development in beauty technology, read on for our roundup of the best LED light therapy face masks and devices — including the Qure Q-Rejuvalight Pro LED Mask that actually works to improve your skin and has quickly become a staple in my skincare routine.
EDITOR'S PICKS: LED LIGHT THERAPY MASKS WE'VE TRIED AND TESTED
Q-Rejuvalight Pro LED Mask, $519 at Qure Skincare
Tried and Tested by Philippa Tonkin, news.com.au checkout Shopping Writer
If you're looking for a mask that you will actually use day in and day out, this one from Qure is the way to go. Each treatment only lasts for three minutes making it super easy to use even when short on time. I've been popping mine on as soon as I get out of the shower every night. Then, by the time I get dressed in my pyjamas and hang my towel back in the bathroom time is almost up. For me, convenience is one of the most important aspects when it comes to beauty tools because if you don't use it consistently, it's really not worth your money.
In terms of the mask itself, the Qure Skincare Q-Rejuvalight Pro LED Mask is the world's first FDA-cleared customisable LED mask. It is one of the only masks that contains five light colours. Infrared light helps with circulation and protects collagen, deep red to reduce wrinkles and redness, red to boost collagen and firmness, amber for sun damage and pigmentation and blue for acne and breakouts. On the Qure Skincare App, users can choose between anti-ageing and anti-blemish treatments and can use both on different parts of the face simultaneously. The anti-ageing treatment combined red, deep red, infrared and amber wavelengths. While the anti-breakout combines both red and blue wavelengths.
When I first started using the mask almost two months ago now my skin was in a fairly good place so I used the anti-ageing treatment on my whole face. Since then my skin broke out a little because I started testing some new products and as a result, I started mixing it up with the anti-blemish treatment. I liked that I could use the red and blue light at the same time. This way I was able to use the anti-blemish treatment on my forehead and chin where I was breaking out and keep the anti-ageing on the other parts of my face that were ok.
Back to the mask, it uses five safe, concentrated wavelengths of light to penetrate the skin layer at various depths. This helps to treat a multitude of skin concerns deep in the skin that your regular serums can't normally reach. Other benefits that the mask boasts include reducing fine lines and wrinkles, clearing and preventing acne breakouts, evening skin tone and fading dark spots, calming redness and reducing irritation and firming sagging skin.
Personally, I saw the most change in terms of clearing acne and reducing redness once the pimples were gone as well as a general brightening of my skin tone. While I do still have a couple of blemishes on my skin, the rest of my skin has really improved. It's a lot brighter, feels bouncier and more firm and older pimple spots have lightened.
Yes, this mask isn't cheap but it's definitely not the most expensive on this list and has really worked with my skin and my busy schedule.
Dr Naomi LED It Glow Light Therapy Device For Skin, $595 at Dr Naomi Skin
Tried and Tested by Marina Tatas, news.com.au checkout Shopping Writer
The Dr Naomi LED face mask is a staple part of my skincare routine and I am blown away by the results — I can confidently say it has seriously brightened my skin. It's helped fade my persistent acne marks and after consistent use, my skin looks glowing, certainly not as dull as it looked before. I also use the mask when I have an active breakout and I’ve noticed it is a big help in the healing process.
I love the convenience of an at-home device — yes the in-clinic LED lights are more powerful than what you get in an at-home mask — but the ease, convenience and benefit of being able to treat your skin whenever you want outweighs that for me. And if you know you’ll use it consistently, I think the Dr Naomi LED mask is well worth your hard-earned cash.
Tried and Tested by Claudia Coy, news.com.au checkout Social Media Producer
I've wanted to try one of these masks ever since I had a facial at The Skin Bar and fell asleep during the LED therapy — a treatment that does all the heavy lifting for you AND it takes just 10 minutes a day. Yes, please!
Since using the Dr Naomi LED It Glow Light Therapy Device for the past six weeks, I've noticed my skin is brighter, and plumper and it's helped with my past acne scars.
While you have the option to go about your usual routine while using the LED mask, I like to add a little extra indulgence and use it while laying on my bed, in my comfy PJs, with my favourite podcast on. Having 10 minutes to just stop and enjoy some self-care, while using a device I know is helping to revive my skin is my favourite part of the day.
My only warning is to tie your hair back before wrapping the velcro strap around your head, as it can tug if your hair is left out.
Omnilux Contour Face, $605 at Omnilux
Tried and Tested by Hannah Paine, news.com.au checkout Editor
Omnilux was one of the first companies doing in-salon LED light therapy and is known — renowned even — for being one of the best. It's even approved by none other than supermodel Bella Hadid.
I’m not going to lie — this was a huge expense for me when I bought it. But two years on I can say the Omnilux Contour Face was well worth the spend, it’s been a game changer.
I’ve seen a visible difference in my skin. It looks calmer, more even in tone and glowing. I also feel like it’s helped minimise my pores and made them less noticeable. It’s a great alternative to in-salon LED light treatments, which can cost around $60 to $100 a pop. It’s important to note my mask does have some wear and tear to it after two years of use, including small creases in the mask. However, all the lights still work as normal.
The hardest part is the initial cost and getting into a routine of using it often enough to see results. You won’t see a difference if you only use it occasionally, you need to be consistent. But let me tell you, it’s worth it!

BEST LED LIGHT THERAPY TOOLS
Foreo UFO 2 Smart Mask Treatment, $329 at THE ICONIC
Tried and Tested by Marina Tatas, news.com.au checkout Shopping Writer
It's genius really — this unique device combines sheet masking with LED light, plus cold and hot sonic wave technology to completely transform your skin.
Setting it up was fairly easy, and you're able to do all the guided treatments through the FOREO app, which I loved. It was nice to hear a calming voice talk you through all the treatments — it felt like I was at a spa!
Obviously, it's not going to completely change your skin like an intense laser session or skin needling, but it does offer a super relaxing facial with light therapy, vibrations and more. Your skin is going to feel hydrated, brighter and more snatched.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING AN LED MASK
When choosing LED masks to include in our list, we evaluated several factors:
Price: LED masks and devices are a pricier beauty investment, so you may need to splash some of your hard-earned cash on one. However, we've made sure to include a variety of price points in our list, starting at $129 and ending at $605, to suit a variety of budgets.
Your skin concerns: Different LED lights target different skin concerns, so if you're keen to address a particular issue, make sure the device you choose has the best LED light for you. Red light helps to reduce inflammation and encourages collagen production, whereas blue light is great for acne-prone skin types. Yellow light also works hard on anti-ageing concerns.
Convenience: An at-home beauty device needs to be convenient for you to want to use it consistently. We recommend looking for something that's easy to use and wireless.
Warranty: If you're worried about the longevity of these devices, where possible, we've included the warranty for each of these devices to give you some peace of mind when shopping.
HOW WE CHOOSE PRODUCTS
With hundreds of models available, it’s impossible to test every model out there. To help you find the best LED face mask, we tested a few well-known brands at different price points. In addition, our shopping team read hundreds of customer reviews and looked at test results and ratings from product review sites to help you find the best LED face mask for you. We also spoke to Emily Buckwell, CurrentBody’s Product Expert, to find out more about the benefits of LED face masks and how they work.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS LED LIGHT THERAPY?
"LED stands for light-emitting diode and LED light therapy devices emit light wavelengths that penetrate deep into the skin to stimulate collagen production, for powerful anti-ageing and brightening results," Emily told news.com.au checkout.
"Different coloured light treats different skin concerns, but most LED masks focus on red light therapy which treats signs of ageing, evens out hyperpigmentation, and reduces rosacea and scarring."
Blue light therapy utilises blue LED light and is normally used to target acne and other related skin concerns.
DO LED FACE MASKS WORK?
Yes. According to Emily, LED face masks can help "improve skin tone, texture, and firmness... and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles."
CAN I USE AN LED FACE MASK EVERY DAY?
You can use an LED face mask every day (and yes, it is completely safe to do so) but for those of us who are time-poor, Emily recommends three to five times per week.
Each treatment should last about 10 minutes, and we love that some models like the CurrentBody mask offer a pre-timed treatment so you can sit back, relax and not worry about a thing.
ARE LED FACE MASKS SAFE?
A big ol' face mask can look a little scary for some but fear not, they are completely safe.
"So long as they are TGA-approved or made to approved standards, [they are safe]. A quality LED face mask made for at-home use should be 100% pain-free, should not generate heat, and shouldn’t be uncomfortable to wear," Emily told news.com.au checkout.
HOW SHOULD I PREP MY SKIN BEFORE USING AN LED FACE MASK?
Emily recommends popping your LED mask onto clean skin, so the best prep is to "thoroughly wash your face prior to using your mask."
WHAT SKINCARE PRODUCTS SHOULD YOU USE AFTER AN LED MASK TREATMENT?
You want to focus on hydrating ingredients and avoid anything that can cause photosensitivity.
"This makes skin more susceptible to damage from LED light treatments and natural sunlight, and exposure to light after using these ingredients can lead to sunburn, hyperpigmentation, or other adverse effects," Emily said.
Some examples include retinol, glycolic acid, and citric acid — but always check skincare labels before using.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR LED FACE MASK?
Cleaning it is really easy. Use a lint-free cloth or a water-based wipe to wipe down the LED mask. If you have any stains that won't come off easily, give them a gentle rub with 70% rubbing alcohol.
WHEN CAN YOU EXPECT TO SEE RESULTS FROM YOUR LED FACE MASK?
If you want to see results, you need to be using it consistently. As an example, the CurrentBody LED mask has been clinically proven to generate visible results within four weeks when the mask is used consistently for 10 minutes per day, three to five times per week.
HOW DO YOU FIND A COMFORTABLE LED MASK?
Look for an LED mask that's made from flexible silicone — one that can mould to the contours of your face with ease.
