Tattoos could hold clue to Mitat Rasimi’s shooting death

The ink on a heavily tattooed bikie’s skin could be a vital clue in the Dandenong execution of gangland figure and Mokbel associate Mitat Rasimi. It comes after he was this week arrested and charged with murder.

The tattoos of a heavily inked bikie could hold the key to solving the murder of organised crime-linked Mitat Rasimi.

Laiseni Kakato, 27, appeared briefly in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning, charged with the fatal shooting of the long-time Mokbel associate almost a year earlier.

Mr Kakato was arrested in Springvale just after 4pm on Tuesday and interviewed by police before being charged with one count of murder.

He will be forced to bare all to detectives after the court granted permission for photographs to be taken of his large body of work.

Detectives from Taskforce Sector swooped on Mr Kakato, from Dandenong, on Tuesday afternoon in Springvale.

Police also executed warrants at properties in Dandenong and Endeavour Hills as part of Tuesday’s operation.

Mr Kakato, who has previously been photographed wearing the Comanchero outlaw motorcycle gang patchwork, remained silent as he sat in court staring flatly ahead.

Prosecutors requested an order be made, forcing Mr Kakato to roll up his sleeves and allow detectives to photograph his elaborate body art on his arms, legs, chest, back and even his head.

The court heard he had previously refused all photos and Mr Kakato shook his head and crossed his arms over his body when he heard permission would be granted.

In granting the application, Magistrate Fiona Hayes said the compulsory procedure may “confirm or disprove (his) involvement in the events” and police could use reasonable force to take the photos.

The court heard Mr Kakato had a heart condition which required him to take 10 pills per day.

Mr Kakato made no application for bail and will return to court on May 20.

Slain man Rasimi — who was once part of Tony Mokbel’s drug empire known as The Company — was ambushed at 9.55pm on March 3 in Dandenong.

The 51-year-old was sitting in his Peugeot on Dawn Ave when he was shot repeatedly.

Severely wounded, Rasimi desperately drove for his life but ploughed into a pole and died at the scene.

A second man, Richard Ene, 25, was charged with the execution in November last year and remains in custody.

He is due to appear again at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on April 9.

The investigation remains ongoing and detectives continue to appeal to anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppersvic.com.au
