Detectives believe Latrobe Valley man Jarrad Lovison was killed in the isolated bush spot where his body was found.
Police now suspect a number of people were there but not necessarily involved in the death of the 37-year-old timber worker.
Mr Lovison’s body was found dumped near a roadside in bush at Moondara on May 23, more than a month after he disappeared and about 29 km from his Newborough home.
Detective Insp. Andrew Stamper of the missing persons squad said now would be a good time for anyone who was there when he died to make contact.
“There may have been others present who had nothing to do with what happened to him,” Insp. Stamper.
Investigators believe he was taken there in a vehicle, either voluntarily or against his will.
He did not ride his green mountain bike, which is still missing and remains an important element of the case.
Insp. Stamper said police were able to find his body because they received information from the community which led them to search certain areas.
“We believe it (Mr Lovison’s death) happened there. There’s no logical reason for him to have been there,” he said.
Missing persons squad detectives will this week be
in the Latrobe Valley as the investigation gathers momentum.
They intend to make visits to local people they think may have information on what happened to Mr Lovison in the period after he went missing on April 15 this year.
“We’re going to be ramping up our investigations. We’ll be pretty active in the Moe and Newborough area,” Insp. Stamper said.
Mr Lovison’s black labrador Slade was found at his home after he was reported missing.
His bike and mobile phone remain missing.
Mr Lovison was last seen alive as he rode the bike along March St, Newborough, at 9.45pm on April 15.
He had been seen at Kmart and Woolworths stores in Moe earlier that day and also met a friend in Belvedere St, Newborough.
