Loved ones of missing Newborough man Jarrad Lovison say the grisly discovery of his remains after a five week search had been a “big ordeal from start to finish” for them.

Missing persons detectives found Mr Lovison’s body as part of an “active investigation” in Moondarra, 160km east of Melbourne, on Saturday afternoon.

“Now we move to the who, how and why,” best friend Adam Reddiex told the Herald Sun.

“I’m just disgusted, to discard him on the side of the road, it sickens me. He was a good bloke.”

After a five week dedicated social media campaign Mr Reddiex said he was “absolutely shattered” Jarrad was found dead.

“It is not the way we wanted to bring him home,” he said.

“It racks my brain as to why this happened. Whatever has happened, it doesn’t make any sense.”

Police remained tight-lipped on the grisly discovery.

“The man’s cause of death is under investigation” police spokeswoman Leonie Johnson said.

“As the investigation is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to provide further comment at this stage.”

Earlier this month detectives appealed for information about Mr Lovison’s mysterious disappearance after he was last seen on April 15 in Newborough, about 29km from where his remains were found.

Jarrad’s father John Lovison said his son “didn’t have a bad bone” in his body.

“He went out like a normal day, like he normally did and never came home,” he said earlier this month.

The 2.1m tall 37-year-old vanished without a trace, with loved ones saying it was unusual for Mr Lovison to go anywhere without his black Labrador, Slade, which was found at his home.

He was working in the timber industry at the time of his disappearance and in the past had worked as a nightclub bouncer.

He was also looking to move to Queensland in coming months.

Just weeks ago Detective Sergeant Graham Hamilton from the Missing Persons Squad said police had “very serious concerns” for the missing man.

“Things were coming together for Jarrad,” Det Sgt Hamilton said.

“He keeps his mum and dad informed of what he does. We have very serious concerns.”
