A woman has been charged over the death of a man at a bayside house party more than a year ago.

Insurance worker Samuel Baker, 33, was found unresponsive inside a Hampton East home in the afternoon of January 21 in 2024.

The major homicide probe saw three people arrested before they were all released.

Mr Baker later died in hospital.

Homicide squad detectives made their move this week almost 18 months after Mr Baker’s death.

Samuel Baker was remembered as “a good kid” by his friends.

A woman already in custody was on Wednesday charged over the Ashburton man’s death.

The 27-year-old woman, who is of no fixed address, was charged with one count of murder.

She is already in custody for unrelated matters and will face court again on June 18.

Details of Mr Baker’s death have not been made public.

The bayside party house was subject to a number of police requests in the months before last year’s tragedy.

Neighbours last year said the Wickham Rd property played host to a number of parties that stretched well into the morning.

There were also several loud arguments at the home.

Detectives believe the group of people at the party were known to Mr Baker.
