Three people have been arrested over the death of a man at Hampton East.
The man, who has been identified as 33-year-old Samuel Baker, was found “unresponsive” at 3.45pm at a Wickham Rd property on Sunday.
He died in hospital.
Charlie Jok, who lives at the Wickham Rd address with his cousins, said Mr Baker would come over most weekends “to relax” and was considered family.
He said the Ashburton man lived with his mum and had a job in insurance.
“He goes to work, he was a good kid ... he’s in heaven,” Mr Jok said.
He said whoever allegedly killed Mr Baker would take on sins and “have a hard time”, and there was not usually trouble at the house.
“Nobody fights here, this is the first time something like that happened.
“They were just having fun for the weekend.”
A Victoria Police statement said a 27-year-old Hampton East man, a 28-year-old Berwick man and a 25-year-old woman of no fixed address were assisting police with their inquiries.
Detectives returned to the home on Monday afternoon to question the occupants and look for new evidence.
Police searched over the house with a drone, while SES members combed the empty lot across the street.
Neighbours said the house was known for big parties that went into the early hours of the morning, and there were often loud arguments.
Some had called police in response to the disturbances in the past.
Party paraphernalia could be seen strewn across the living room on Monday morning.
A local resident, who did not want to be named, said trouble had started for the siblings who lived there when their father died a few months ago.
“Their father was kind of the rock that held them sensible,” they said.
“Since then they’ve been partying a lot.
“There’s arguments close to every night.”
They said one such argument broke out on Saturday night.
“Something definitely happened because my son jumped into bed with me at about 3am and said ‘two men are screaming again, can I come in?’”
They said there were more transient people around the area after the removal of housing commission flats across the road from the house.
The death comes just weeks after a man was allegedly killed in daylight only a few streets away.
Spiros Filidis, 46, was allegedly stabbed in a shocking random attack as he walked to catch a bus.
Another neighbour said she was also concerned about the increase in crime in the area.
“I’ve been here a long time. We used to have the social housing and there were definitely some unique people there but never anything like this,” she said.
“Now that’s gone and it’s all started.
“It’s not pleasant. But then you can’t focus on that can you otherwise I’d never step outside the front door.”
“The parties are believed to be known to each other,” a Victoria Police statement said.
“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.”
