Students returning home from school in Melbourne’s east have been caught up in a horrific collision, with a man dying after his vehicle collided with their school bus.

A man has died after a van collided with a school bus carrying students from Upper Yarra Secondary College at Woori Yallock on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred about 3.30pm along the Warburton Highway, less than 10 minutes from the school in Melbourne’s east.
Four students from the school were travelling on the bus at the time of the tragedy, which forced closed the highway in both directions.
Upper Yarra Secondary College alerted parents to the incident in a text message, which was later viewed by the Herald Sun.
“A bus with students from our school was involved in an accident. Our students are uninjured and have been collected by their families. Support is available,” the message said.
It comes just months after another school bus was involved in a frightening collision at Eynesbury, resulting in student’s having limbs amputated.
The driver of the van, understood to be the sole occupant, died at the scene while passengers on the bus escaped serious injuries.
The bus driver, a man in his 60s, was taken to the Royal Melbourne hospital in a stable condition with upper and lower body injuries.
A worker from the Martyrs Bus service company, whose bus was involved in the crash, said the driver was “doing okay”.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash that occurred about 3.35pm.

It comes as two men died after their vehicle collided with a tree before it reportedly split in half in Melbourne’s west.
The incident occured along Kimpton Way in Altona about 6.50pm Thursday evening.
One of the victims was believed to be a 35-year-old male, while the other was yet to be identified.
Emergency services arrived quickly to the scene but the occupants of the car were unable to be revived. Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
An SES spokesperson said the Triple-0 call about the accident detailed a tragic scene.
“The call said the car has been damaged in three areas and moved 20 metres down the road,” they said.
