An internal investigation within Victoria Police has led to an officer facing serious assault charges.
A first constable, a 34-year-old male from the state’s east, has been charged with unlawful assault and assault with a weapon.
The charges relate to an alleged incident in Warrandyte while the officer was on duty in May last year.

It comes a week after two Victoria Police officers faced false imprisonment charges over an alleged incident from January last year.
A 41-year-old male senior constable and a 39-year-old female leading senior constable from the state’s west were charged after an internal investigation by Victoria Police’s Professional Standards Command.
The alleged incident also took place while the officers were on duty.
The exact circumstances surrounding the alleged incident, including the location at which it allegedly occurred or what took place, are not yet known.
A Victoria Police spokesperson said the pair were likely to appear at a magistrate’s court.
