A teenager has been charged over the stabbing of a boy on a bus in Templestowe last week.

The 18-year-old Preston man is accused of stabbing a boy, 16, when the bus was travelling on Williamsons Rd on March 16.

The man allegedly fled the scene, with emergency services then finding the boy with multiple stab wounds on a footpath on Fitzsimons Lane after he stumbled out of the bus.

He was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with life-threatening injuries but was discharged the next day.

Police believe the victim had a fight with a man on a bus when the stabbing occurred.

The pair are understood to be known to each other.

The 18-year-old has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury.
