A fed-up shop worker has chased after a gang of youths who stole several luxury clothing items as young offenders terrorised Brighton for the third time in just four days.
CCTV footage, obtained exclusively by the Sunday Herald Sun, shows seven youths — some wearing hoods — entering Sports Conscious on Church St about 3pm.
They immediately focus their attention on a rack of designer vests and jackets and begin trying a number of items on in front of the staff member manning the store.
The crew of young men, still wearing the items they tried on, ran from the store without paying as the only worker inside gave chase along Church St.
Sports Conscious manager Andy said the offenders made off with thousands of dollars worth of goods in just two minutes.
He said it was a devastating blow for his small business and was another example of teenagers causing havoc in his suburb.
He said locals were fed up with their behaviour after machete-wielding teenagers terrorised locals at a Christmas carols event on Tuesday after a night of home invasions.
“There is incident after incident in Brighton at the moment,” he said.
“Brighton is under attack, kids have worked it out with the nice cars and shops.
“It is becoming like the tobacco shop fires, we’re becoming invaded once a week.”
He said a further group of teenagers fled with the crew who targeted his shop before boarding a train nearby.
He said police were on Saturday afternoon yet to contact or visit the store and they did not respond to a query about Friday’s shoplifting incident.
Officers did however clash with youths armed with machetes at the Bayside Christmas Carols in Brighton East on Tuesday night.
Three teenagers were arrested after youths began fighting at the family event at Dendy Park about 8.30pm.
That public affair came just hours after a spate of alleged home invasions in Brighton earlier that morning.
Andy said a makeshift police hub on Church St could help deter young criminals after a spate of violent attacks in that street in recent months.
Teenagers armed with machetes have been seen fighting with each other on Church St on at least two occasions since September.
Four teens were charged after allegedly threatening a rival gang with the weapons on October 1 before their opponents fled the area.
A separate but equally as confronting knife fight erupted just metres away just weeks before that attack.
