A knife fight erupted between teenagers near a prestigious Brighton school on Friday, with witnesses claiming one of the warring groups was brandishing machetes.
The Church St feud came just hours after two knife attacks in the city’s west.
It is understood one of the boys involved in the Brighton attack was forced to defend himself with a shop sign.
Witnesses say the attackers then fled on a train.
Elite Firbank Grammar told its students to avoid the area due to an incident “that could endanger the public”.
The incident was the third knife-related attack involving teenagers across Melbourne in the last 24 hours.
It came after Copperfield College students were forced to hide in classrooms when the school was plunged into lockdown on Friday, following reports of a teenager with a knife.
And on Thursday, a 16-year-old boy was stabbed in a machete gang attack outside Springside West Secondary College in Fraser Rise.
Video of the Brighton incident shows one of the boys throwing a large shop sign at another in the middle of the road, with it instead hitting a car.
The boy who threw the sign was then chased along Church St.
Victoria Police confirmed there was a brawl in the street.
“It is understood teenagers were fighting on Church Street near Middle Brighton Railway Station about 3pm,” police said.
“The groups fled the scene before police arrived. There have been no reports of injuries.”
