Ricky Nixon has been found guilty of assaulting a postman during an ugly altercation at his home after a magistrate dismissed the ex-AFL player agent’s claim that he was acting in self defence as “not credible”.

Former AFL player agent Ricky Nixon has been found guilty of assaulting a postman during a parcel delivery gone wrong.

Nixon, 61, claimed he was acting in self-defence when the ugly altercation took place at his Port Melbourne home on March 10, 2022.

The Melbourne Magistrates’ Court last week heard Mr Nixon assaulted the postman, Behroz Kahaliqi, and threw a parcel at him following a nasty interaction with his girlfriend, Melissa Huynh, two days earlier.

Nixon claimed Mr Kahaliqi called his partner a “c —t” and was forced to defend himself from an attack instigated by the angry postie.

“He stood there with parcels and a box and said ‘your girlfriend is nothing but a sl-t and c--- of a thing’ … he then punched me, kicked me on the knee (and) threw a box at me,” Mr Nixon said during his contested hearing last week.

“I did not create (the alleged incident), I just said I was Ricky Nixon and he went off his head.”

However magistrate Vincenzo Caltabiano on Tuesday found Nixon’s evidence was “not credible or reliable” and that he was the instigator of violence.

“I am not satisfied that there is a reasonable possibility that Mr Nixon’s account is correct,” magistrate Caltabiano ruled.

“I am satisfied that Nixon assaulted Mr Kahaliqi while they were standing at the door.

“I am satisfied Mr Nixon then dragged him in (to his property) and further assaulted him.

Magistrate Caltabiano ruled Mr Nixon was “was not acting in self-defence” and assaulted the postman despite no threat to his own safety.

“I am satisfied there is no reasonable basis to believe he needed to defend himself,” magistrate Caltabiano said.

His Honour added evidence by Mr Nixon that he did not throw the parcel at Mr Kahaliqi is “not reliable or credible”.

“Having regard to the evidence, I am satisfied Mr Nixon threw a parcel at Mr Kahaliqi and this action caused injury and placed him in danger. I am not satisfied this conduct was in self-defence,” His Honour said.

Prosecutors said a community corrections order was in range for the offending.

Nixon played 63 games at VFL/AFL level with Carlton, St Kilda at Hawthorn before he made his name as the game’s most influential player agent, representing the likes of Gary Ablett Senior and Wayne Carey.

Mr Nixon, found guilty of unlawful assault and discharging a missile, will return to court on June 27.
