A Mongols bikie allegedly armed with three firearms has been charged after an attempt to steal a boat in Balaclava went horribly wrong.

A Mongols bikie allegedly armed with three firearms has been charged after he and a female accomplice allegedly bungled a boat burglary in Balaclava.
Sam Chamoun, 41, faced the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday as police allege he and his co-accused attempted to steal a boat in Westbury Close on Wednesday morning.
Detectives from the Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit allege the Nissan patrol towing the $10,000 Seadoo Speedster boat crashed into multiple parked vehicles before being dumped in nearby Raven Grove.
The court heard CCTV then captured the duo attempting to flee the scene in an Uber.
Police arrested the pair minutes later on Alma Road. Mr Chamoun, from Bentleigh, was charged with multiple offences including possess traffickable quantity of firearms, two counts of prohibited person possess a firearm, prohibited person possess imitation firearm, possess ammunition without a licence, two counts of theft of motor vehicle and fail to stop on police request.
Balaclava residents expressed their shock at the suburban crime spree.
“It was just carnage,” one resident said.
“Everyone was looking out at the massive screeching, grinding, metal noise coming down the street. I thought it was the bin truck broken down.”
On Wednesday Mr Chamoun’s lawyer told the court his client needed buvidal and vyvanse medications for a drug addiction.
“He takes it on a regular basis, for management of a drug addiction,” the lawyer said.
No application for bail was made.
He will next face court on May 24.
A North Melbourne woman, 21, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and theft of a boat.
She was bailed to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on May 16, 2023.
