Teen girl charged over alleged stabbing of Pacific Epping security guard in night of violence

A 17-year-old girl accused of stabbing a security guard in the stomach before allegedly stabbing another girl 11 times has applied for bail after the violent fight at Pacific Epping shopping centre.

A teenage girl accused of stabbing a shopping centre security guard before knifing another girl almost a dozen times has been denied bail.

The 17-year-old girl faced a children’s court on Saturday evening after she was charged over the “frenzied” double stabbing at Pacific Epping on Friday night.

The court heard the accused “lunged” at her alleged victim, a 14-year-old girl, in the outdoor food court before a 19-year-old security guard rushed to intervene about 9.20pm.

It is alleged the accused stabbed the security guard once in the abdomen, before chasing down the 14-year-old girl.

Detective Senior Constable David Rennie told the court she then allegedly stabbed the girl 11 times to the abdomen and lower body, causing serious internal injuries.

He alleged the accused, who attended the shopping centre wearing a balaclava, stabbed the two victims with a black-handled folding knife concealed in her black hoodie.

In opposing bail, Mr Rennie said the victim suffered a punctured lung and collapsed spleen, among several other internal injuries.

She was due to undergo surgery on Saturday evening.

Through tears, the mother of the accused told the court her daughter, who was not on bail at the time of the alleged offending, needed to be at home.

“She’s not going to breach bail. We’re going to make sure she doesn’t,” she said.

The court heard she has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and autism, but has no issues with alcohol or drugs.

Her defence lawyer Andrew Rankin said his client confronted the 14-year-old girl because she claimed the girl had assaulted her sister and was “continuing to boast about it”.

“She intended to confront the complainant, but did not intend to stab her,” he said, noting she only brought a knife because she claimed her alleged victim was known to carry knives.

“She maintains she acted in self defence.”

He added: “She doesn’t pose a risk to the general population.”

“This is not the sort of gang violence … that often comes before this court.”

But Magistrate Shiva Pillai said she posed an unacceptable risk to the community.

“The knife comes out after the separation by the security guard,” he said.

“How is it when security have separated the parties that a person then pulls out a knife and stabs a person 11 times?”

The girl, who appeared via video link, started yelling at the camera when she was told she would be remanded in custody.

But she was on mute and could not be heard by the court.

She has been charged with intentionally and recklessly causing serious injury, recklessly causing injury, affray, assault with weapon and unlawful assault.

She returns to court on March 21.

It was one of two known knife incidents across the suburbs over the weekend.

A group of masked thugs filmed themselves mercilessly beating a defenceless boy laying on the ground before slashing him with a machete.

Shocking footage shows the teenage boy standing in a park as at least two rivals surround him, one holding a huge machete to his face, before he is cowardly punched in the back of the head.

The victim drops to the ground as the armed group begin kicking him to the head.

He is struck about 10 times in a few seconds before he is pinned to the ground and punched in the face more than 20 times.

One of the offenders steals the victim’s phone as he desperately tries to cover his face to stem the brutal blows.

He appears to be begging for the thugs to stop, raising his hands in the air to surrender.

This is when a huge machete is swung at the victim’s arm, creating a huge knife wound almost instantly.

The horrific social media clip ends with the victim squirming in pain on a footpath.

“We want blood”, “get pumped” and “nearly lost a (sic) arm” were some of the captions posted by the person filming the onslaught.

It is not known where the alleged fracas occurred, but it is understood to have taken place on Thursday or Friday night.
