Police have charged a man, who was already banned from owning guns, over a shooting at a Fawkner home linked to well-known Melbourne underworld figure Mohammed Oueida.
The Armed Crime Squad charged the 20-year-old man over the alleged attack on December 23 last year, when several shots were fired at the front door of the home on Major Rd.
Police will allege that the man arrived with a second man in a stolen Suzuki Swift about 11pm, before one of them fired shots into the home with three people inside, including a young child.
The pair allegedly tried to break into the property and could be heard shouting before one of the men fired the gunshots and fled.
The home targeted in the shooting is believed to be linked to Oueida, a major gangland figure who has been charged with serious drug trafficking offences in Western Australia.
The stolen Suzuki was later found torched on Fashion Pde in Broadmeadows with a gun inside.
On December 28, the Major Rd home was targeted a second time, with several offenders pouring accelerant across its driveway before setting alight a blue Toyota Camry and fleeing in a getaway car.
Shortly after that alleged attack, another Toyota Camry was found burnt out at the intersection of William and Lawson Streets.
Police arrested the 20-year-old man at Melbourne Airport on Saturday night.
He was charged with two counts of reckless conduct endangering life, home invasion, using a gun while under a firearm prohibition order, motor vehicle theft and three counts of criminal damage by fire.
Oueida remains behind bars in Western Australia after police uncovered 14kg of methamphetamine, $10,000 cash and encrypted mobile phones at a Perth home in June.
The Herald Sun is not suggesting the residents of the home are involved with organised crime or illegal activity.
The man has been remanded in custody and will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on May 27.
