A second Melbourne man has faced court over the cold case murder of Canberra woman Irma Palasics.
Joseph Vekony, 68, of Endeavour Hills, faced the ACT Magistrates’ Court for the first time on Friday after being arrested and extradited earlier this week.
Mrs Palasics, 73, was beaten to death in her home in 1999.
In September, Steve Fabriczy, 68, was the first to be arrested and charged with murder.
He has pleaded not guilty.
Vekony on Friday also pleaded not guilty.
He did not apply for bail, and was remanded in custody.
ACT Policing Detective Superintendent Scott Moller said the case was “about joining all the dots”.
A reward offered for information has not been paid out, Supt Moller said.
“This matter has been solved by the detectives who worked on the case,” he said.
He also urged more people to come forward.
“I think there’s certainly other people who have knowledge of this matter … people who have known what’s happened … and haven’t come forward.
“We’d love to talk to those people.”
Mrs Palasics’s grandson John Mikita has kept up a years-long campaign for the case to be solved, appealing for public help and erecting signs in suburban Canberra
