Police have confirmed human remains found at a Wollert tip belong to Epping mum Ju ‘Kelly’ Zhang.

A post-mortem has been completed on the human remains that were found on Friday afternoon at the northern suburbs waste facility.

DNA testing completed by the Victorian Institute of Medicine overseen by the coroner has confirmed the remains belong to Ms Zhang.

The result marks a huge breakthrough in the four-month-old case.

A pathologist attended the scene on Friday after missing persons detectives made the grim discovery.

Ms Zhang’s boyfriend Joon Seong Tan, 35, has been charged with one count of murder.

Victoria Police said the matter was before the courts and they were unable to provide more detail.

Ms Zhang’s parents are staying in Melbourne after making a mercy dash from China.

They are helping to look after Ms Zhang’s primary school aged son.
