A Melbourne bikie boss accused of carrying out a $200,000 extortion plot has had his charges dropped after the prosecution’s star witnesses refused to give evidence.

Hells Angels Nomad chapter president Jasmin Destanovic, 43, was charged after he allegedly stabbed a man, threatened to hurt his newborn baby and “cut off his fingers” if his demands for cash were not met.

At Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday, prosecutor Philip Teo said the eight charges against Mr Destanovic, which included threats to kill and inflict injury, would be withdrawn.

“All I can say is that we only received notice late last week that the witnesses did not want to proceed,” he said.

Co-accused bikies Amad Dashtani, 23, and Jinwar Arian, who allegedly menaced the man and threatened his family, had most of their charges dropped except for one count each of failing to provide information to police.

Mr Dashtani also pleaded guilty to possessing a vial of testosterone which was uncovered during a police raid.

The court previously heard Mr Destanovic picked up the victim from the Monash Children’s Hospital after the birth of the man’s baby and demanded $150,000 on December 20, 2020.

Mr Destanovic then allegedly stabbed the man in the arm and threatened to cut his fingers off.

The alleged victim later received menacing messages after he failed to pay the ransom.

Police alleged the victim was earlier that year told to meet a member of the Hells Angels outside a Mill Park convenience store where he was ordered to pay up within three days for gang protection.

The court heard it was an organised club operation in which Mr Destanovic tried to force the victim to pay fees to him and his family with the help of lower level bikies.

The victim was allegedly forced to pay $50,000 prior to the incident at the hospital.

Police believe the victim had never owed any money or debt to any of the accused Hells Angels bikie members.
