Four men have been arrested over a savage Carlton attack in which a group of people allegedly stomped on the head of their unconscious victim.
Police said that the victim was stomped 12 times and another man was assaulted in the early hours of November 19 around Little Cardigan St, before a third man was stabbed at Argyle Place.
About 20 people were involved in the episode.
Three men were arrested on Thursday and another on Wednesday.
In the Wednesday sweep, investigators from Melbourne CIU, Melbourne DRU and the gang crime squad carried out simultaneous warrants at St Albans, Brookfield, Fitzroy North and Altona North.
Three males — a 17-year-old, a 21-year-old, and a 21-year-old — were arrested and are being questioned.
A 17-year-old was arrested on Wednesday over the alleged Carlton violence.
He was questioned and not charged but was remanded on charges related to an aggravated home invasion at Tarneit at 4am on Wednesday.
“All parties arrested have known associations to a youth gang,” a Victoria Police statement said.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Topham said in the incident’s aftermath that the level of violence was “horrific”.
“It was a terrible, senseless act with one of the victims being unconscious whilst he’s been assaulted,” he said.
“They are both terrible acts of violence that could have potentially taken a life.”
Police said the investigation remained ongoing.

Street crime blitz leads to arrests
More than 30 suspected youth gang members have been arrested in a major Melbourne street crime blitz.
They were among 112 who police believe are linked to 14 Victorian street gangs under scrutiny by Operation Alliance.
Victoria Police said those detained in the four-day operation were taken in for aggravated burglary, robbery and car theft.
Among them were four teenagers arrested over an aggravated burglary at Ivanhoe East.
The group allegedly opened an unlocked house door last Wednesday and grabbed keys but roused a dog in the process.
The animal’s barking woke a female resident, who found three of the teens in the front yard.
One allegedly produced a knife and threatened the woman, who retreated inside as the youths drove off in her Honda Accord.
Members of the gang crime squad and Viper task force found them driving the car in Sunshine West two days later as part of their Alliance duties.
It was followed to Melton West, where two of those on board, aged 15 and 16, allegedly stole number plates and were arrested.
The car was then tracked to Harkness where the vehicle was dumped and four more suspects, aged 16 and 17, were taken into custody.
Four western suburbs teens were arrested as part of Alliance over high-level offending in the outer eastern suburbs.
The group, aged 16 and 17, were arrested by Croydon divisional response unit officers over a robbery at Ringwood, an armed robbery at Ringwood and an affray at Knox shopping centre.
Alliance ran across the CBD, Maribyrnong, Wyndham, Brimbank, Melton, Darebin, Dandenong and Knox.
Specialist units, including the gang crime squad, Viper taskforce, the air wing, highway patrols, transit and state surveillance unit officers, assisted.
Fifty of 78 youths were found to be compliant with their bail conditions when checked.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Mark Galliott said the level of compliance with bail obligations was pleasing.
“We are absolutely determined to put the squeeze on anyone who remains intent on committing serious and violent crime and bringing harm to the community,” Mr Galliott said.
