A night of trick-or-treating has ended in horror after a Melbourne teen was allegedly stabbed in the street during Halloween celebrations.
The attack on the 14-year-old boy took place on Lennon Parkway near Balmoral Park in Derrimut in Melbourne’s northwest about 8pm on Tuesday as local children were out knocking on doors for Halloween celebrations.
Victoria Police said the attack happened after the boy was approached by a group of males.
“A male offender stabbed a teenage boy on Lennon Parkway about 8pm,” they said in a statement.
“The teenager was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
The offender fled the scene on foot and police were last night searching the area.
Police do not believe the victim was trick or treating at the time
Local residents took to social media to alert other parents to the danger.
One woman posted on a local group: “Urgent Warning!!! Please get all kids inside, there has been a stabbing at the park and we have a missing child!!!”
She later followed up with an update saying the teen had been taken to hospital with stab wounds.
Others expressed shock.
“What an awful way to end a great night for kids,” a second local mum posted.
“I always love seeing our community out smiling and connecting with each other on Halloween. Tonight was busy with lots of happy children and neighbours connecting. So devastating to read this news.”
