A man has been charged over a deadly Donnybrook home invasion which is at the centre of a homicide squad investigation.
Detectives from the armed crime squad arrested 23-year-old Collingwood man Ali Saleh at Barkly Square in Brunswick on Wednesday afternoon.
He was later charged with aggravated home invasion, aggravated burglary, assault with a weapon, reckless conduct endangering life, possessing methylamphetamine, possessing a drug of dependence, handling stolen goods and driving while disqualified.
Mr Saleh faced a short filing hearing at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he did not apply for bail. He was remanded and ordered to return to court on April 4.
Most of the charges relate to an incident in which a group of men allegedly forced their way into a Middlemount St, Donnybrook, home at 4.20am on January 7.
A man and woman were inside at the time and they fought with the home invaders.
Shots were fired and a man was critically wounded.
Emergency services were called to the scene but the injured man could not be saved.
Investigators believe the man killed was one of the group of visitors.
A 27-year-old Donnybrook woman fled the scene and was later found at Doreen with injuries described as not life-threatening.
A 28-year-old man from the property was not hurt in what police believe was a targeted attack.
