Man shot dead in Donnybrook home invasion
A man has been shot dead and another is wounded following a struggle with residents during a home invasion in Melbourne’s north.

A man from has been shot dead during a botched home invasion in Donnybrook at the weekend.
Up to four offenders armed with a gun and machete stormed a home on Middlemount St in a targeted attack about 4.20am.
The 19-year-old Lalor man allegedly forced his way into the home along with several other men, who remain on the run.
The offenders attacked a woman with a machete, prompting a male occupant of the home to confront them.
One man was shot dead during the struggle while a 22-year-old man from Clifton Hill later took himself to the Northern Hospital to with a suspected gunshot wound to the lower body.
Police are investigating if he was one of the men who attended the Donnybrook home.
The female occupant of the home, who is refusing to co-operate with police, was treated for “serious” injuries sustained during the attack.
It is believed the 27-year-old Donnybrook woman fled to an address in Doreen, before she was taken to hospital.
The other occupant of the home, a 28-year-old man, is assisting police.
A firearm was found in nearby Doreen a short time after the incident.
Police have remained tight-lipped on whether the home invasion gone wrong was linked to the ongoing tobacco wars that have plagued Melbourne recently but reassured the public there was no threat to their safety.
“We do not believe this is anything other than a targeted incident”, Inspector Banks said.
No charges have been issued in relation to the incident and police are continuing to work to identify the parties involved and how they were known to each other.
The female occupant is not co-operating with police.
The front window of the Middlemount St home had been smashed during the invasion and an unfired bullet could be seen on the footpath in the street behind the home.
Cheema Dilbag Singh, who lives nearby with his parents, wife and five-month-old baby, said he had always felt safe in the area until this “scary” incident.
The 30-year-old said he liked going for walks after dinner but wouldn’t anymore.
“After daylight, we can’t go outside,” he said.
“Daytime now also doesn’t feel safe.”
The exact circumstances surrounding the man’s death are being investigated.
