Two people have been charged as investigations continue into the double murder of a father and son in Sydney’s west last year.

Following the fatal shooting of Toufik and Salim Hamze outside a property in Osgood St in Guildford on October 20 last year, officers established Strike Force Ormerod.

Salim died at the scene while his father was taken by NSW Ambulance paramedics to Westmead Hospital where he later died.

“Unfortunately Salim was the target for the shooting. He was ambushed, and Toufik was the innocent bystander,” Homicide Squad Commander Danny Doherty said as part of the ongoing investigations into the shooting.

“He was the loving father of Salim and ultimately he paid the ultimate price – he is paying for the sins of the son.”

On July 14, detectives executed a search warrant at a home on Alton St in Merrylands where they arrested a 25-year-old man.

He was charged with accessory after the fact to murder and was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on September 8.

The next day, a search warrant was also executed at a property in Merrylands West where officers seized a gel blaster.

Police charged the 17-year-old with possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm, not keeping a firearm safely and possessing an unregistered firearm, and he is due to appear at a children’s court on September 30.

While the silver Lexus SUV allegedly used by the gunmen was found burnt out on a nearby street minutes after the double murder, the grey Ford Mustang was not destroyed and instead discovered stored in a Guildford garage two days later.

Both cars are believed to have been used as getaway vehicles in the murder, which have since undergone forensic examination.

Detectives are appealing to any person who may have seen the vehicles prior to the murders

On Monday, Strike Force detectives were out canvassing the Marayong, Granville and Yagoona areas to establish the movements of the Ford and the Lexus vehicles prior to and following the shooting.

Detective Superintendent Doherty said police are appealing with the public for any information about the cars that may help with their inquiries and said these arrests would not be the last.

“Following our last public appeal, detectives have since charged a man with accessory after the fact – this will not be the last arrest,” Det Supt Doherty said.

“To refresh everyone’s memory, the Mustang was parked near the intersection of Railway St and Inkerman St at Granville late on Tuesday 19 October, then moved to Murdock Ln at Guildford in preparation for the murder.

“Murdock Ln is also where the Lexus SUV was driven to and destroyed by fire immediately after the murder took place, so it is crucial that we continue to firm-up the movements and knowledge of these vehicles and appeal to anyone who may have seen any person with these vehicles in the days before Toufik and Salim were shot.”
