Salim Hamze, father Toufik Hamze dead after Guildford shooting

Two members of the notorious Hamze family were shot dead in a ute as they were leaving for work this morning, in the latest chapter in Sydney’s underworld.

A dark coloured Ford Mustang is being sought by police as the getaway vehicle used by the gunmen after the fatal shooting of a father and son in Guildford on Wednesday morning.

Salim Hamze, 18, and Toufik Hamze, 64, were gunned down as they sat in a car outside their Osgood Street family home in Sydney’s south-west just before 9am.

Salim was known to be involved in the operations of the Hamzy organised crime network who have been in a tit-for-tat war with the rival Alameddine clan for more than 12 months.

Police believe after opening fire the gunmen fled the scene in a gold Lexus SUV which was found burnt out on Murdock Lane, only a few minutes drive away.

After dumping the Lexus the men are believed to have had a dark-coloured Mustang sitting waiting, with police now trying to trace their movements after they drove off.

“Shortly after that (Lexus) vehicle was set on fire, a grey or dark coloured Ford Mustang sedan two-door was seen leaving that location,” Detective Chief Superintendent Darren Bennett said.

“The police are very interested in speaking to the occupants of that vehicle or anyone who may have seen that vehicle leave the location after the vehicle caught fire.

“This is another appalling crime in a long list of gangland style shootings that have taken place in south-west Sydney. State Crime Command and local police are hand-in-glove trying to stop these crimes before they happen or investigate these crimes after they take place, and that’s what’s happening today.”

A resident on Murdock Lane where the Lexus was dumped and burnt out said she heard men “talking loudly” in the lane about 9am.

“I was washing my face and I heard people talking loudly out in the lane, but we get that a bit so I didn’t think much of it,” the woman, who did not want to be named, said.

“Then I heard my son screaming, so I ran over and there was fire coming from the lane and I saw a black car driving away.

“It was scary, we have young kids and they often walk through the lane, so for it to happen there is concerning.”

Just weeks before he was gunned down, Salim Hamze had been charged with a breach of a Firearms Prohibition Order.

Police had seized a firearm that was found in the driver’s side door of his vehicle.

Det Ch Supt Bennett said police would continue to crack down on the warring Hamze and Alameddine families.

“He was a person who was known to us,” he said.

“Our main focus is a number of known families involved in serious and organised crime, so we’ll be chasing up every lead in relation to this matter and we will be hoping to interview people in the coming days.”

BURNT OUT GETAWAY CAR FOUND

Two members of the notorious Hamze family have been killed in a shocking daylight shooting in Sydney’s west this morning.

Police found 18-year-old Salim Hamze and his father Toufik Hamze, 64, slumped inside a ute at Osgood St near Woodville Rd at Guildford about 8.55am.

Hamze junior couldn’t be resuscitated and died at the scene, his father was treated by paramedics in a critical condition but died a short time later.

It appears to be more bloody fallout in the gangland war between the Hamze and Alameddine families although it’s believed the father and son were not directly related to slain Mejid and Bilal Hamze.

Neighbours who live near Murdock Lane told The Daily Telegraph of their shock when they looked out their window to find a Lexus SUV on fire.

It is believed the vehicle was used as a getaway car in the aftermath of the double-fatal shooting.

“I was just sleeping and I woke up to the sound of a car horn, like a really long horn that went on for 30 seconds or so,” a neighbour said.

“I got pissed off because it was so loud they woke me up, so I looked out the window and there was just fire and black smoke.

“Neighbours were screaming and standing out on the road, then we heard multiple bangs which must have been something in the car exploding.”

Fire crews were quickly on the scene putting out the blaze, before police taped off the back lane at both ends and took over.

Forensic crews remain on scene gathering evidence, while detectives are going door-to-door seizing CCTV footage and taking statements.

It is believed the father and son were about to head to work when they were gunned down.

A burnt out car was also found on nearby Murdoch Lane in Guildford shortly after 9am.

While its links to the shooting have not yet been confirmed, similar cars have been discovered burnt out after the shootings of both Bilal and Mejid Hamze.

Both ends of Osgood Street where the shooting occurred remained taped off, with police going door-to-door questioning neighbours about what they heard.
