For the best part of three decades, the extended Hamzy/Hamze family clan has been notorious in the Sydney underworld.
It began with Khaled Hamzy Snr, who in the 1990s was jailed for his role in a drug syndicate, while more recently his sons Bassam, Mejid and Ghassan Amoun, and their cousins Bilal, Mohammed and Ibrahem, have caused headaches for police.
With both Bassam and Mohammed in jail, and Mejid and Bilal dead, it is currently a very troubling time for the Hamzy family.
Bassam Hamzy
The most notorious member of his family, Bassam is currently serving more than four decades in jail for murder, and his role in a major drug supply racket which he ran from inside prison.
Ghassan Amoun
The younger brother of Bassam, he was also convicted over the major drug supply ring run by his infamous relative. Police affidavits tendered in court reveal he was dealing ice, cocaine and cannabis. A recent intelligence report suggested he could be a target for his rivals.
Mejid Hamzy
The older brother of Bassam and Ghassan, Mejid was a notorious underworld figure before his assassination last October. With his notorious sibling Bassam in jail, he played the role of the family‘s leader on the outside. Two men have now been charged over his death.
Bilal Hamze
The cousin of the Hamzy/Amoun clan, Bilal was a gangland heavyweight before he too was executed in a drive-by shooting in June. He had been told by NSW Police that there was a bounty on his head, but he continued to live his life as normal – and ultimately paid a price.
Ibrahem Hamze
Bilal‘s younger brother, he too was named as a potential target for rivals in the wake of his older sibling’s death. Court documents revealed police believe he was involved in an attack on an Alameddine family rival in late-2020 in the early stages of their conflict.
Mohammed Hamze
Nicknamed “Little Crazy”, he was last year stabbed eight times in jail where he is serving a sentence for a 2012 shooting.
He previously ran the Bankstown chapter of the Brothers 4 Life gang.
He will remain behind bars until 2023.
