A dark grey Ford Mustang has been seized by police, who believe it is the same one used as a getaway car after the latest round of Hamze and Alameddine family violence.
The two-door high-performance car was located in a garage during a search at a Guildford unit block on Friday afternoon as part of investigations into the drive-by murders of teenage gangster Salim Hamze, 18, and Toufik Hamze, 64.
The seizure could be a major breakthrough in the hunt for the two suspects, however NSW police would not confirm exactly what vehicle had been seized.
“About 3.45pm on Friday (22 October 2021), police executed a search warrant at a unit on The Esplanade at Guildford,” NSW police said in a statement.
“Several vehicles, electronic items, cash, and illicit drugs were seized by investigators and will undergo further forensic examination.
“The search warrant relates to an ongoing investigation by officers attached to the State Crime Command’s Homicide, Criminal Groups and Raptor Squads. No further information is available at this time.”
Salim and his father Toufik had just hopped into their red work ute when a gunman got out of a Lexus SUV and opened fire about 8.55am on Wednesday.
Between nine and 12 bullets were fired at the vehicle, fatally wounding the two men.
With the job complete the suspects fled from Osgood St to nearby Murdock Lane, where they dumped and torched the Lexus and hopped into a pre-prepared grey Ford Mustang.
CCTV captured the roar of the engine as it sped out of Murdock Ln and turned left onto O’Neill St.
It is understood that police tracked the car to the garage on The Esplanade where they carried out a search on Friday.
Having added additional resources to the joint investigation by Homicide, Criminal Groups and Raptor Squads, the breakthrough is a major positive for police who had vowed to end the ongoing and bloody Hamze and Alameddine feud.
