MH370 mystery: Sky News doco will reveal secret report on plane debris

It’s the greatest aviation mystery of all time - and a report that could shed light on doomed MH370 has been locked away with “absolutely nothing” done to “investigate”.

The analysis of three crucial pieces of debris from the doomed MH370 – which could confirm just how the missing plane hit the water – have been kept secret, sparking questions why the public has been left in the dark.

The last pieces found from the plane at the centre of aviation’s greatest mystery were sent to Malaysian air-crash investigators for analysis and reporting more than two years ago, but the Malaysian Government, has never publicly revealed the results.

Plane wreck hunter Blaine Gibson, who has been instrumental in the discovery and collection of more than 30 pieces of debris from the ill-fated flight which disappeared in 2014 with 239 people on board, said it is crucial to investigate every single piece of available evidence.

“We have so little evidence of what happened, so let’s investigate what few clues we do have and go and find the plane,” Mr Gibson said.

“The Malaysian authorities have had these pieces for two years and have done absolutely nothing to identify and investigate them, and that is not acceptable.”

Two of those pieces were found in Madagascar and were due to be handed over to Malaysian investigators by Zahid Raza, the Honorary Malaysian Consul to Madagascar. But he was gunned down in what has been described a “cool, professional” hit just before he was due to take possession of the pieces.

His murder has never been solved and Mr Gibson, who himself received death threats while he was in Madagascar looking for debris, said the link with the missing plane couldn’t be ruled out as a reason for the murder.

The third piece, part of a wing spoiler, was found in 2020 at Jeffrey’s Bay, a town in South Africa known for its surf break.

Independent experts who analysed the piece of wreckage before it was sent to Malaysia for testing, said damage indicated it was torn off the plane during an uncontrolled dive.

Mr Gibson said the pieces of debris, already identified from photographs, include the base plate of the vortex generator, which he said rarely breaks up in a crash remain important clues.

“If they can show it shattered on impact when it went down it is closer to the seventh arc, then the debris evidence disproves the controlled ditching, “ Mr Gibson said.

“So let’s check it out. What is so sad is that people get wedded to theories. The evidence that we have come across so far has disproves some theories,” he said.

“The theories should fit the evidence, not the other way around.”

The first pieces of MH370 washed up on island shores off Africa in 2015. The debris has unlocked some of the mystery surrounding the plane’s disappearance including the way the flight possibly ended.

The locations of the debris also confirmed the drift modelling by one of the world’s leading oceanographers, Professor Charitha Pattiaratchi from the University of Western Australia, who accurately predicted, right down to the exact island beach, where debris from MH370 would wash ashore – long before any parts of the plane were ever found.

His modelling puts the location of MH370 at a similar site to that of British aerospace engineer Richard Godfrey who believes he has fresh evidence pinpointing a new location for the plane which is north of the area that has already been searched.

It has been revealed Australian air safety investigators are quietly renewing their search for the plane cross matching data with new evidence from Mr Godfrey which suggests a different flight pattern and possible location for the missing aircraft.

Mr Gibson said he believes the Malaysian authorities have not revealed any information about the last pieces of debris because they just want to forget about the tragic mystery.

“That is not fair to the families and to the public,” Mr Gibson said.
