Sky News Australia to unveil new claims in MH370 disappearance

Danica Weeks is not angry, but she wants answers.

Not just answers for herself but for her boys now getting older and asking questions with which she struggles to respond.

Namely, what did happen to Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 and her then-husband Paul — father of her two boys — and 238 others when on March 8, 2014 the aircraft disappeared?

Now almost eight years on, Danica says she feels the world has taken a significant step closer to answering the question and finding the aircraft lost to the Southern Indian Ocean.

And she said for the first time since that day, she has changed her mind about what happened courtesy of the new evidence, now believing it was no accident but a murder-suicide co-ordinated from the cockpit.

“I was so staunch about saying it wasn’t the pilot,” she told Sky News in an exclusive new documentary. “But now I have to throw all of that out after nearly eight years (since the disappearance) and three years of searching (for the plane, by the authorities).”

The turning point has been new analysis by British aerospace engineer Richard Godfrey late last year who believes he has now not only identified the most likely final resting place of the aircraft but also uncovered evidence of a lost 22 minutes when the aircraft flew around in circles.

The apparent breakthrough came with analysis of Weak Signal Propagation Reporter (WSPR) technology, effectively invisible digital radio waves akin to multiple trip wires that record anything “disturbing” or passing through.

Data from WSPR, pronounced ‘whisper’ and commonly used for weak signal communications between amateur ham radio operators, was crossed checked with satellite data sets to put the aircraft 1933km due west of Perth in the Southern Indian Ocean in an area with a depth of 4000m.

Critically, is the 22 minutes which has raised speculation as to whether pilot Zaharie Ahmad Shah was in contact with someone, a possibility explored by Sky News new documentary MH370 The Final Search.

“I always believed that it was a malfunction with the plane,” Danica told Sky News.

“I never believed it was the pilot. Unfortunately, Richard Godfrey has said that he believes with this point that the pilot was in control. And look, it makes sense that we’ve searched for a ghost plane, haven’t found it. So maybe we have to step forward and … search on that basis now.”

Danica remarried in 2020 at a ceremony at her home on the Sunshine Coast. Husband John Crinion said the “journey” for his wife and the whole family particularly the boys Lincoln, 11, and eight-year-old Jack never got easier.

“We’ve got two young boys that are becoming men that haven’t realised yet exactly the weight of what is coming towards them not just in real life but in people finding out what’s going on for them and it’s a massive thing.”

Danica said no-one realised it would take so long to give them clear answers but no one yet knew the truth.

Now at last, an answer is a little closer.
