SHE was happy to just stay on her feet but ski mum Lydia Lassila did a lot more than that as she continued her comeback in the US on the weekend.
The veteran Winter Olympian was competing in only her second event since the birth of her second child and winning bronze in Sochi three years ago, when she came up with a stunning win in the World Cup aerial skiing event in Deer Valley, Utah.
The victory has earned Lassila Swoop Play of the Weekend.
Lassila joins the likes of Charlotte Caslick, Ruan Sims, surfer Layne Beachley, the Southern Stars, the Australian Paralympic team, Jessicas Fox and former netball boss Kate Palmer as a winner of a Swoop Play of the Day, Play of the Week or Play of the Weekend winner
“I was emotional all day and I had a good feeling. I couldn’t believe I won,” Lassila said.
“To be honest, I was happy to stay on my feet.”
Lassila is attempting to ski at her fifth Winter Games in Pyeongchang next year.
“This is the feeling that I missed and came back for,” she said. “It’s not the winning so much — it’s being able to do your best, the pure adrenaline and the fun.
“Hopefully we will get a few more mums out there going after what they want. You can have it all — on some days.’’
