FORMER Opal Belinda Snell doesn’t know how long her ageing body will hold out but she plans on making the most of every second she has left in the WNBL.

Snell has already signed on to play for the Sydney Uni Flames next WNBL season but beyond that, even she isn’t sure.

But the 36-year-old Flames captain has acknowledged there are still a few things she would like to achieve in a game she has played at a high level for the best part of two decades.

“It’s been a long time since I won a WNBL crown. I don’t want to get ahead of myself but to do that again would be special,’’ Snell said.

FLAMES IN PLAYOFFS

Snell, whose Player of the Week honours last round proves her worth in the league, was a member of the AIS when they won the WNBL crown at the end of the 1998/1999 season.

She then helped the Panthers to Sydney’s last WNBL title in 2000/01.

Snell’s wish for a third crown could well become a reality this season with the Flames now top of the table and for the last fortnight, injury free for the first time since the early pre-season.

“What the goal is right now is to try and get the home advantage for the semi-finals,’’ Snell said.

“We have to make sure we don’t take any of the games we have remaining in the season lightly.’’

The Flames travel to Melbourne this weekend to take on the Melbourne Boomers, the former team of their coach Cheryl Chambers.

A win in round 17 will help consolidate the Flames’ position in the top two with just another two games in their regular season remaining.

The Flames are the only team to so far confirm a spot in the playoffs with the two semi-final match-ups unlikely to be finalised until the last match of the regular season.
