CRACK West Australian apprentice Fred Kersley will embark on the next chapter of a riding career he hopes will have a lasting Melbourne theme.

The grandson of revered Perth horseman Fred Kersley Sr, the teenager will unite two of racing’s most famous clans when he embarks on a three-month stint with Lindsay Park.

JAPAN CUP: BOWMAN TOPS OFF GRAND YEAR

AUTUMN PROGRAM: THE RACE TO DECIDE WINX’S MAIN GOAL

“I’m really excited about the chance of working for and learning from David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig,” Kersley said.

“I can officially go on loan to the Hayes and Dabernig stable after one more metro win.

“I’m going over to meet everyone and sort a few things out and ride on Wednesday (at Sandown).

“I’m looking to move over within the next two weeks.”

Kersley, 18, needs one more metropolitan winner to reduce his claim from 3kg to 2kg.

He has booted home 26 winners this season to be third in the WA jockeys’ premiership behind Willie Pike (75) and Chris Parnham (30).

“Hopefully I can ride a winner at Sandown. It would be quite special,” Kersley said.

“I’d like to base myself in Melbourne for the next chapter of my career. It’s exciting and a privilege to get this opportunity.”

Kersley will ride She’s Popular and Domesticated for the Hayes-Dabernig team.

He will also ride The Thug for Russell and Scott Cameron and Kakanui for Brendan McCarthy.

CUP RUNNERS HEAD TO HONG KONG

THE last of the international raiders have left Werribee, but the Australian connection will continue in Hong Kong next month.

Ireland’s Max Dynamite and France’s Tiberian will contest the international meeting at Sha Tin on December 10, after finishing third and seventh respectively in the Melbourne Cup.

Max Dynamite will be ridden by Sydney’s Glyn Schofield when he contests the Hong Kong Vase.

Tiberian, part-owned by Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock, will run in the 2400m Vase on his way back to Europe.

Schofield is familiar with Hong Kong racing, having ridden there as a contracted rider.

The international meeting has also attracted world-class entrants for the 1200m Hong Kong Sprint, 1600m Hong Kong Mile and 2000m Hong Kong Cup.

Highland Reel, Idaho, Helene Charisma, Talismanic and Gold Mount head the Vase entries.
