Weekend best bets: Doomben, Caulfield, Rosehill Gardens and Morphettville
If Princess Jenni can reproduce her dominant Australasian Oaks performance in Adelaide recently, punters need look no further for a wise investment this weekend. WHO CAN WIN AND WHY?

Last week … five winners. Mr ultra consistent Chris Vernuccio landed his best bet with the Melbourne Cup bound Steel Prince getting the nod at Flemington at $2.90, but it was TAB’s Nick Quinn that doubled down for punters with fellow headquarters winner Fidelia ($2.25) and Kiwi surprise packet The Bostonian ($11) bobbing up again in Brisbane at double-figure odds. Our Sydney lads maintained their consistency with Ray Thomas and Matt Jones bringing home the Wolfe ($1.60) and Kolding ($2.40) respectively.

DOOMBEN
NATHAN EXELBY (Courier Mail). Form: 11328
MEET MR TAYLOR (Race 3, No. 1 — $2.50)
Taken out of the Listed Lightning after coming up with yet another bad gate and instead runs in this set weights Class 6. Was beaten the only time he previously went to 1200m, but did it tough that day. Draws a soft gate for this and Kelly Schweida has booked 3kg claimer Corey Bayliss for the ride after his faultless displays on Cruze in recent weeks. This looks a nice stepping stone back into stakes grade for Meet Mr Taylor.
Value bet: EVER LOYAL (Race 6, No. 6 — $16)
CHRIS VERNUCCIO (SuperRacing). Form: 18111
PRINCESS JENNI (Race 8, No.1 — $2.60)
If you take Princess Jenni out of the race, it’s a very even field of fillies in the Queensland Oaks. If she runs up to the level she produced in the SA Oaks she’ll prove too good again.
Value bet: GIRL TUESDAY (Rosehill, Race 7, No. 6 — $4)

ROSEHILL
MATT JONES (Daily Telegraph). Form: 20131
ABDON (Race 7, No. 2 — $4.80)
This Chris Waller-trained horse is ticking along nicely for the 2400m and I’m hoping the predicated rain falls because if he gets his toe into the track he’ll be even more effective while some of his rivals won’t.
Value bet: ASTERIUS (Race 8, No. 15 — $4.40)
RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegraph). Form: 22311
REELEM IN RUBY (Race 5, No. 9 — $2.40)
Should nearly be unbeaten this preparation. She just missed first-up at Warwick Farm then romped in at the same track before her narrow defeat at Rosehill two weeks ago. Drawn to get the right run and with even luck she looks very hard to beat.
Value bet: KOONUNGA (Race 9, No. 12 — $8.50)

CAULFIELD
MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun). Form: 12119
SILENT ROAR (Race 4, No. 12 — $4.80)
Back to her pet distance of 1600m and should get a great on pace run. With her light-weight she’s sure to go close.
Value bet: RACING PARADISE (Race 2, No. 7 — $15)
SIMON MOY (SuperRacing). Form: 11118
PROPELLE (Race 6, No. 3 — $2.70)
Motored late to just miss at Caulfield last start. Looks a great chance but everything depends on where Craig Williams can position her in the run from her awkward gate.
Value bet: GREY SHADOW (Race 8, No. 1 — $5.50)
NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 21441
BANDIPUR (Race 5, No. 3 — $3)
A workmanlike performance at Flemington a fortnight ago on the back of two nice victories.
Should get conditions to suit here and Craig Williams takes the ride having previously ridden him twice for a win and a second.
Value bet: ASTERIUS (Rosehill Race 8, No. 15 — $4.40)
GLENN McFARLANE. Form: x11
PROPELLE (Race 6, No. 3 — $2.70)
Ran great sectionals when stiff last start and only needs to handle the sticky gate to win
Value bet: SHILLELAGH (Doom Race 9, No. 8 — $5)

MORPHETTVILLE PARKS
LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser). Form: 14124
MELI MELO (Race 4, No. 3 — $3.30)
Soft winner at Oakbank in the Cup three starts back before heading to Warrnambool where she far from disgraced behind Furrion.
Back to her best when she closed late behind Valac last time, this is a sharp drop in class and she looks the testing material.
Value bet: BELLOMO (Race 9, No. 1 — $7)
