The celebrity set has stepped out in style for the 140th running of the $3.1 million Caulfield Cup under cloudy cool conditions.

The grey day has been reflected in the fashions trackside, with subdued but super chic monochrome sported by actor Rachael Taylor and David Jones ambassador Jesinta Franklin in differing shades of grey Dion Lee.

“This has been couriered direct from the catwalk in New York. I love that it’s like a deconstructed suit,” Franklin says.

Fellow DJs face Jessica Gomes opted for more monochrome in an 80s inspired white embroidered Zimmerman jumpsuit.

“I’m tapping into the more relaxed chic fashion we love to see at Caulfield,” she says.

Pants and soft suiting were a popular choice for many wanting to ward of the icy winds and scattered showers in the VIP Health enclosure as well as on the lawns.

Olympia Valance made a late wardrobe change to adapt to the weather in wine coloured wide leg pants and pretty ruffled cream Acler shirt, though many were determined to will good weather on in more flesh baring dresses.

Goosebump inducing single shoulders, cutouts and strapless dresses were popular in shades of pink, red, yellow and blue.

Other famous faces who frocked up for the first big race and social day on the spring racing calendar, included Rebecca Judd in a pink Thurley lace dress, Nadia Bartel in striking blue Dion Lee and Elyse Knowles in gorgeous floral embroidered Bronx and Banco.

While Karl Stefanovic was a late deletion from the guest list, girlfriend and Melbourne Racing Club special guest Jasmine Yarbrough cut a fine figure in navy tailored jacket and skirt from Dion Lee, who seemingly dressed half the celebrity guests trackside.

Boaters, jewelled and metallic crowns and bold turbans were key millinery trends.

Style ambassador Lana Wilkinson says Caulfield is the place to have fun with racing fashion.

“I think that Caulfield isn’t as traditional in terms of having codes for each race day, so you can definitely break with convention in terms of your fashion choices,” she says.
