NSW Little Athletics: 75 track and field athletes named for Australian Little Athletics Championships in Adelaide 2024

NSW have named an excellent squad for the Australian Little Athletics Championships this weekend - and you can catch them LIVE on both Saturday and Sunday on KommunityTV.

They come from Sydney suburbs, up and down the NSW coast and country and regional towns and centres.

The diverse Little Athletics NSW squad boasts 75 of the best young athletes in the state rewarded for their recent efforts with selection in the team travelling to compete at the Australia Little Athletics championships in Adelaide this weekend.

And you can catch all the action from the SA Athletics Stadium LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on KommunityTV from 9am (EST) on both Saturday and Sunday.

The team will travel to South Australia intent on defending their U13s and U14s titles and also nabbing the U15s crows at the national meet.

Little Athletics CEO Chris Giles said the squad is bursting with talent and expected to put in a top showing against rival state at the Australian championships.

“NSW last year won both the under 13 and under 14s trophies,’’ he said.

“The goal is defend them both and hopefully also add the 15s.

“The U13s are brand new but the U14s and U15s have a numerous returning athletes and there are a number of Australian and state record holders which augers well.’’

Giles said some of the U15s athletes to watch for include Audrey Kamphet from South Eastern in hurdles and jump events and Caitlyn Martin from Winston Hills in the 90m hurdles plus three jumps.

“One to watch is Keegan Free from the Hills Districts in shot, discus and javelin,’’ Giles said.

“His younger brother Hayden is also in the team in the U13s in the same events while Maxwell Wood from Maitland will do the 200m., 400m and long jump.’’

In the U14’s Harry Keats form Bowral turned plenty of heads at the NSW championships last weekend and is expected to shine at the Australian titles. WRAP AND GALLERY HERE

“He was the all Australian in the 800m for U13s last year,’’ Giles said.

“In the girls Sophie Polkinghorne from North Rocks Carlingford is the all Australian record holder in the U13s walk.

“We've also go some state record holder with Harry on the weekend breaking the boys U14 800m record as well.

“Lachlan Wheeler from Sutherland is also in the team and was second behind Harry and also won the 1500m in the U14s.

Clubmates Ruth Ifejika in the U14s and Divine Chukwudi in the U13s, are both from the Liverpool clubs and sprinting for NSW at the event.

Other young sprinters to watch are Jacob Copp from Preston in the U13s after his success at the meet last weekend and also Darcy Coote from Holroyd in the U14s.

Heptathletes Sienna Latanis St George and Samuel Price from Cherrybrook both medalled at the NSW titles and are expected to shine at the Aussies.

Also expected to turn heads are multi-class athletes Lachlan Margetson from Sutherland, and Olivia Earle from Tamworth.

The Australian championships will run from April 25 to April 28 in Adelaide attracting youngsters from across the country.
