Little Athletics NSW titles: rising stars of track and field, new faces to watch in 2024

They are defending champions, rising stars and new kids on the block. Some of the young guns to watch at the NSW Little Athletics championships in Sydney this week.

Six year old sprinter sets 300m World Record

They are defending champions, rising stars and new kids on the block and they will be in full flight at the Little Athletics NSW championships in Sydney this weekend.

Hailing from across the state, regional areas, country towns and city suburbs, the best and brightest young athletes from NSW will congregate at Sydney Olympic Park for the 2024 HART Sport state championship.

Some have recently competed at the Athletics NSW titles and will bring strong form into the annual event.

We take a look at some of the young athletes already making a name for themselves in the sport and others expected to turn heads at the state championships.

Tuqiri Mason is from the NSW coastal town of Port Macquarie and racing in the 100m and 200m U17 boys division at the meet.

He recently set a zone record in the 200m and is a young speedster to watch for.

Another athlete from Port Macquarie to keep an eye on is Molly Currie.

This youngster has a zone record in the 800m and has show great form in the 400m and 800m recently.

Gosford’s Emma Shiels is set to compete in the discus and middle distance events in the U11 age group.

Emma comes in with some great results having finished first at the School Sport Australia nationals in the 800m and second in the 1500m.

At the Athletics NSW country champs she was just .3 of a second short of an AA U13 400m qualifier.

To top it off, she broke the NSW country record in shot put for her age earlier this month.

Tayla Bryan is from the Macquarie Hunter Centre and will be competing in sprint events.

She comes in as the Newcastle Gift winner and Archer Todd is another Gosford athlete to watch in the javelin.

Max McAneyey is a Dubbo speedster expected to turn some heads at the event.

He is competing in the 100m, 200m and 400m.

This U17 athlete finish second at the Australian All Schools in the 400m and was the fastest qualifier.

He is chasing a U20 world qualifier.

Savannah Auvaa is from Bathurst and competing in shot put discus and javelin.

She is an U12s competitor and looking to defend her state shot title in Sydney.

Adelaide PittIS is from Orange and another top speedster competing in the 100m, 200m and 400.

She finished first in the Australian All Schools 400m last year and the Australian Little Athletics championships over the same distance.

Harlow Pate is from Wollongong City and competing in the U10s in the 100, 200 and 400m races has broken a number of centre records this season.

Most recently Harlow ran a time of 28.08 in the U10 200m, breaking the previous record from 2010.

Another Wollongong city speedster is Chase Grant who is competing in the under 17s in the 100, 200 and 400 and recently raced at the Illawarra track challenge.

Cowra’s Pippa Thomas is another to watch.

She is the highest seed in the long jump and triple jump 100m and 200m events.

Harry Keats from Bowral has been making a name for himself for some time.

This under 14 competitor will be racing in the 400, 800 and 1500 and just completed a European summer season in athletics.

Hailing from region five, Manly Warringah’s Eliza Lawton brings top form into the event.

This 1500 and 3000m runner is competing in the U14s and broke a state record at zone for the 3000m.

James Atkins is from the same club and will be competing across sprints and hurdles.

He is in the under 13’s division.

Sophie Polkinghorne from North Rocks Carlingford is one to watch in the walk.

This under 14s competitor already boasts a national record.

Field athlete Caitlyn Martin from Winston Hills is one to watch from region six in the under 15s, along with well-known walker Isaac Beacroft from Quakers Hill.

This young gun is a national record holder and competes in both walk and distance events.

Olivia Scott-Rodgers is from the Hills District and a top-notch jumper in the under 14s.

Cameron Bloom from the Hills District is one to watch in a 3000m and Luke Vrataric from Blacktown is another jumper expected to create waves.

He has a region record of 1.9 6m and is competing in the under 17s.

National PSSA champion Marnie Laurence hails from the eastern suburb and is another young sprinter on the rise.

Siena Novak brings good form into the event and will compete in the 800m.

Billy Blair is well known in athletics already in both sprinting and field events.

The Balmain athlete recently recorded a massive zone record of 62.9 7m in the discus.

Izobelle Louison-Roe from Port Hacking always turns heads when she competes.

Izy will be competing in the triple jump and long jump after breaking the state U17 girls triple jump record.

Anson Vella from Sutherland in the U11 long jump and hurdles is another to keep an eye out for.
