Basketball live stream: Nunawading set to shine at Australian Club Championships (U14 Basketball Club Championships)

Nunawading looks to be Victoria’s best hope of securing a trophy at the Under 14 Australian Club Championships. Meet them here.

Nunawading has every right to feel confident about its chances at the U14 Australian Club Championships starting from Sunday in Sydney.

The Spectres appear to be Victoria’s best hopes of bringing back some silverware with both the boys and girls teams having recently taken out the Victorian Junior Basketball League top division.

It followed on from their success at the National Junior Classic, which saw NSW, South Australian and Victorian clubs compete, where both teams won their respective grand finals.

And you’ll be able to see every Spectres game with KommunityTV set to livestream all 184 games from the event thanks to a partnership with Basketball Australia.

HOW TO WATCH EVERY GAME OF THE U14 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

The boys have been so dominant in the past 12 months, they haven’t lost a game under coach Rick Vos.

“We’ve won two competitions and now we’re off to the big one,” he said ahead of the tournament.

“They’re a very talented and very deep group. We’ve usually got 10 players on our team but we’ll be taking 12.

“When I send them out on the court I have full faith that they’ll be able to get the job done. But the main thing is we have a lot of fun doing it.

“This competition will be the last chance for some of our guys to play at a controlled level. What I mean by that is when you get to under 16s or 18s, they can often be playing against kids who are different sizes because of how they’ve developed.

“We’re really excited by the weekend ahead.”

The Spectres’ girls’ team, coached by Jaysn Harvey, have been just as dominant against some of Victoria’s best junior clubs.

They finished 9-0 in the final stage of the VJBL and won the grand final last weekend by 26 points against Casey.

But, according to Harvey, his team’s development has been three years in the making.

“When this team was put together a few years ago, this year was the target where we would try and win the big three — the VJBL, National Junior Classic and Club Championships,” he said.

“We’ve ticked two of the three boxes so far, but this challenge is going to be really exciting. We saw a lot of these teams at the Classic, but you’ve always got powerhouse teams coming out of the other states.

“It’s a strong position to be in. At the start of the season we focused about 65 to 70 per cent of our time on the individual skills to sharpen those up again after a few interruptions.

“Then we started to wind they back where we got back to challenging the girls’ basketball IQ. It’s been a great process and I’m excited to see what they can achieve.”
