Victoria’s young basketball stars are ready to test themselves against the country’s best.

Ten teams (five boys and five girls) from across metro Melbourne and regional Victoria are set to travel to Sydney for the Basketball Australia Under 14 Club Championships for six days from Sunday.

All games will be livestreamed by Kommunity TV thanks to a partnership with the sport’s governing body.

The Nunawading Spectres are among the state’s best chances after taking out the Victorian Junior Basketball League titles earlier this week.

REVEALED: SA YOUNG GUNS READY TO SHINE ON NATIONAL STAGE

Elisa Brown, Casey girls

Already on Basketball Victoria’s radar as an up and coming star of the state. Brown enjoyed a strong season locally, including a 21-point performance in the grand final, but unfortunately her efforts weren’t enough to get the Cavaliers over the line.

Lucas Byrne, Ballarat boys

The Miners’ leading scorer in the VJBL this season. Byrne has shown he can put up big numbers himself or create for his teammates.

Max Connick, Bendigo boys

His team’s second leading scorer in the VJBL this season with 138 points from 11 games. Has also shown he can hit the three ball.

Marianela Fakalata, Nunawading girls

Finished as her team’s leading scorer with 164 points in the VJBL as the Spectres won the championship. Fakalata also impressed at the National Junior Classic.

Tessa Finch, Sandringham girls

A player who can do a bit of everything for the Sabres. Finch can score at will if needed but it’s her willingness to bring her teammates into the contest, which is fantastic to watch.

Bridgette Kata, Casey girls

Another rising star out of the Casey program, one of the state’s rapidly growing clubs. Kata played a key role in the Cavaliers’ run to the VJBL grand final where they unfortunately went down to Nunawading.

Liam Keogh, Kilsyth boys

Was the second leading scorer among all players in the VJBL Boys Championship this season with 215 points in 11 games. Also has a fantastic ability to knock down a three ball.

Played an important role for the Tigers this season to finish as her team’s equal leading scorer. Has shown she can step out and hit the three ball.

Oliver Maxa, Nunawading boys

Recently represented Victoria at the School Sport Australia under 12 titles and is no stranger to a high level of competition.

Lily Mikic, Melbourne Tigers girls

A player who has proven she can score in different ways. Mikic was the Tigers’ equal leading scorer in the VJBL this season.

Zane Miller, Kilsyth boys

One of the team’s bigs to keep an eye on throughout the next week. Has a fantastic ability to score in multiple ways, but is also a strong presence on the defensive end.

Jesse Nassif, Whittlesea boys

Usually plays as a power forward for his side and uses his size to get to the ring. Like the modern-day big man, he can also step out and hit a three.

A strong presence in the paint for the Pacers, he will play a key role in deciding how far his team will go. Scores strongly but is also as effective at the other end.

Indi O’Connor, Warrnambool girls

Team leader of the squad, excellent reader of the ball. Will be important both ends of the floor.

Madison Ryan, Sandringham girls

Ryan is an athlete with potential, which has staff at the Sabres very excited. She has been selected in Basketball Victoria’s under 14 Future Development Program. Can score in a big way and finished as the third leading scorer in the VJBL.

Eliza Shanahan, Nunawading girls

One of the most prolific three-point shooters in the VJBL. Shanahan is able to hurt opposition teams from deep when she’s at her best.

James Sheehan, Ballarat boys

Has represented the Miners at varying levels this season and has been tremendous. Sheehan thrives against quality opposition often finding himself in double figures.

Mitchell Sutton, Bendigo boys

The leading three-point shooter in VJBL action this season. Sutton hit 21 threes in 11 games and led the way in scoring for his team with 143 points.

Sophie Smith, Warrnambool girls

A bottom age, exciting and speedy guard. Just returned from state netball and basketball duties and will be integral to both defensive and offensive structures

Charlie Wilson, Nunawading boys

Played an important role in his side’s run to the under 14 boys Victorian Championship title with an average of 26.8 points per game in the second phase of the competition. Had a run earlier this year where he scored over 40 points in four straight games.
