KommunityTV has caught finals fever, partnering with one of Australia’s oldest amateur sporting organisations to showcase the best of grassroots sport.

KommunityTV, along with affiliated News Corp mastheads, including the Herald Sun, will partner with the Victorian Amateur Football Association to livestream the top action from the upcoming finals series.

News Corp will live stream 15 VAFA finals matches including six Premier Women’s, four Premier Men’s, four Under 19 Premier Men’s and the Masters decider. Of those matches, 13 will be exclusive to KommunityTV.

And it all starts on Sunday with two huge Women’s Premier League clashes.

The livestream takes flight at 2pm with a qualifying final between Kew and underdogs Caulfield Grammarians before an exciting elimination final between Melbourne University Women’s and West Brunswick from 2:30pm.

The VAFA competition was founded in 1892 and holds a rich history of local footballing prowess across a large part of metropolitan Victoria.

This year’s finals series comes with great anticipation as the race for a prolonged premiership title remains wide open across the four competitions that will be live streamed via KommunityTV.

The William Buck Premier Men’s campaign can attest to that.

News Sport Network managing director Michael Wilkins said the partnership with VAFA provided an opportunity to engage with a passionate sporting community in Victoria.

“The VAFA is one of the oldest amateur sporting associations in the country,” Wilkins said.

“It is a part of the fabric of Victoria‘s rich sporting culture.

“KommunityTV was created to provide a home for the best grassroots sport competitions in Australia, so it is only fitting we have an opportunity to partner with the VAFA for its finals series.

“The VAFA finals series is not just about great sporting moments on the field, but also the great stories off it, and we look forward to shining a light on both over the coming months.

“We are proud to partner with the VAFA and look forward to showcasing all the action on our KommunityTV platforms across News‘ Victorian mastheads.”

VAFA chief executive Jason Reddick said it was exciting to be showcasing the competition to a wider audience.

“As Australia‘s largest senior community football competition, it is exciting for the VAFA to now partner with NewsCorp and bring exposure of our community matches and distinct competition brand to an even wider audience,” Reddick said.

“After the impacts of Covid, we are all looking forward to completing the first VAFA finals series in three years, and partnerships like these will enable all our supporters the opportunity to remain engaged wherever they may be.”

The Premier Men’s finals series is lining up to be a stellar show with Collegians coming in hot on a seven-game win streak while St Kevins, Old Brighton, Old Melburnians and Old Xaverians have had equal airtime in the premiership conversation.

But only four of those sides will fight their way into the finals series which kick off on September 3 streamed via KommunityTV.

In the Under-19 Premier Mens, it is the future stars of the VAFA who will be on show.

Some standouts have already moved to the higher grades but the majority of the future remain in the Under-19 competition. Eyes will be peeled on the underage boys when the intense finals get underway on September 3.

It is shaping up to be Old Xaverians, Old Scotch, Williamstown CYMS and Old Brighton featuring in the Under 19 finals series.
