Sam Kerr is set to become a mother after the Matildas superstar confirmed that her partner Kristie Mewis is pregnant in a heartwarming in Instagram post.

Kerr posted a series of black and white snaps, two with the pair kissing, another with her and Mewis holding an ultrasound picture and another revealing Mewis’ swollen stomach.

“Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!” the post read.

It’s a much needed piece of good news for the football star who has spent the entire year on the sidelines after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury at training for her club team Chelsea in January.

The 31-year-old superstar lives in southwest London but is originally from Western Australia.

The horror injury saw Kerr miss Australia’s ill-fated Paris Olympics campaign where the Matildas were unable to make it out of the group stages.

The adorable post has already had over 70,000 likes within half an hour of the post going live on Monday evening.

The Matildas’ official Instagram page posted: “Congrats!”

Aussie superstar Mary Fowler also added: “Congrats!”

English football star and Kerr’s Chelsea teammate Aggie Beever-Jones commented: “I’m so happy for you guys, congratulations.”

Man City’s Chloe Kelley added: “Congratulations to you both.”

“Let me be the first to say the baby will represent Australia in football,” one fan wrote.

There were countless other comments congratulating the pair.

Mewis, who herself is a former US national team player and plays for West Ham United in the Women’s Super League, moved to the UK from her former club Gotham FC last December.

While it would have pitted the couple against each other, Kerr’s injury meant they have not been opponents since the move, while Mewis has only tallied one game in the WSL.

Kerr and Mewis announced their engagement last November, two months after rumours initially swirled about the move.

The pair kept it quiet, playing a game with fans as they refused to confirm the news until Mewis broke the couple’s silence on November 9 in an exclusive interview with People Magazine.

And a post confirmed the couple were engaged on September 1, 2023.

That was just under two weeks after the Matildas’ World Cup campaign ended in the 2-0 third-place playoff loss to Sweden.

Kerr and Mewis went public with their relationship in 2021 after the Tokyo Olympics and since then the power couple have regularly shared snaps together.

“We’re not private people,” Kerr told Gaffer.

“I like sharing my story. I like sharing who I am outside of football.”

Kerr added that it was important to her to be with someone who understood the demands of football, particularly when they play on the opposite sides of the world.

Mewis added: “I think just being out and being two girls in love, I think if we can change one or two people’s lives, and the way that they feel about each other and how comfortable they feel, then that means a lot to me.

“I love to share my relationship on social media.”

The pair won over fans at the World Cup, sharing a photo dump of their time together, as well as being snapped celebrating with a kiss.

But while off the field life appears to be going great for Kerr, her football return is still seemingly some time away after an extended Matildas squad for four home friendly matches starting later this month was announced without Kerr’s name on the list.

Kerr’s rehab was “coming along well” Matildas coach Tom Sermanni said.

“Her rehab is going really well,” Sermanni said, adding that ACL injuries typically take at least a full year to heal.

“Things are getting a little bit better in rehab, but in reality, it’s still probably a 12-month injury, and Sam’s taking that time to come back to ensure that hopefully, when she comes back, she’s going to be completely fit and healthy.”

However, in September Kerr said on a BBC podcast that she had a “little bit more going on than an ACL”.

It was news Sermanni wasn’t privy to.

“Absolutely not. If you’ve heard that, you’re telling me something I’ve not heard,” he said.
