Records are tipped to tumble as “once in a generation athletes” lift young NSW guns to new levels at the Australian All Schools athletics championships.

NSW team manager Rob Marks said the recent stunning performances of teenagers including Sebastian Sultana and Ivy Boothroyd this season has lifted the level of other athletes in the 276 strong team competing in South Australia.

And he believes the fact the competition is being held on a new track will also see next marks established at the event returning to the Australian athletics carnival for the first time since 2019 due to Covid.

“We have a very strong team, we are going in leaps and bounds in almost all events.

“We haven’t see this for a while. We have once in a generation athletes who are reaching new levels and it is bringing out the best in everyone.’’

Sultana has earmarked himself as a future great with his results in 2022 as has fellow NSW teenager Ivy Boothroyd in recent days.

Boothroyd, a top 400m contender, goes into the U16 800m as a red-hot favourite after setting a NSW U16 800m record of 2:04.90 - a mark a second faster that the Australian All School meet record.

Sprint star Sultana set the athletics world abuzz when he smashed the Australian under-18 100m record with a flying run of 10.27 seconds in October.

The 17-year-old stripped 0.11 off the previous mark set by Jack Hale in 2015 as he improved his PB from 10.53 to 10.42 and then 10.27.

“We haven't had this many great performance so close together and fast and they are bringing everyone with them,’’ Marks said.

“Seb and Ivy are setting massive standards and that's been good for everyone.’’

Marks is also expecting a fierce battle with Queensland for top status at the championships which start on Friday.

“This event hasn’t run for three years so we don’t really know where we are at but we hope to take home all nine relay events. On paper I don't see why we can’t. They have all been training the last couple of weeks,’’ he said.

“We have high hopes of pushing for that top (state) sport. We’d be disappointed ted if we didn't come out on tip.’’
