Deals for Port Adelaide to secure Orazio Fantasia from Essendon and the Crows to recruit GWS youngster Jackson Hately are expected to drag on into next week.
Both South Australians are seeking come-home trades before the exchange period ends on Thursday but their moves are being held up.
Discussions are continuing over ex-Norwood player Fantasia, who still has a year on his contract, and the Bombers are digging their heels in.
While Essendon list boss Adrian Dodoro has said that Port Adelaide needs to stump up more than a second-round pick to secure the livewire forward, The Advertiser understands the 25-year-old’s camp is confident a deal will get done next week.

The Power does not have a 2020 first round pick after trading it last year to bank later selections to match bids for highly-rated Next Generation Academy prospect Lachie Jones.
Its first pick this year has dropped back from 26 to 29 due to free agency compensation.
Essendon may ask for a future first round pick but Port Adelaide has said it has its eyes on the 2021 draft, which is primed to have a lot of South Australian talent, including father-son option Jase Burgoyne.
Fantasia, who has played 80 games since debuting in 2014, is in Adelaide and has spoken with Power coach Ken Hinkley about coming to the club.
Port Adelaide is expected to not be an active player in the trade period outside of Fantasia.
Hately’s path to West Lakes from GWS is being stalled because the Giants have plenty of irons in the fire, including Jeremy Cameron wanting to head to Geelong, Jye Caldwell seeking a switch to Essendon and trying to bring in Braydon Preuss from Melbourne.
Drafted at No. 14 from Central District in 2018, Hately is expected to move to West Lakes for a pick, possibly a mid-range selection.
The Crows hold their best draft hand with choices one, nine, 22, 23, 33, 40 and 50, but they may package some of those selections to try to nab the Western Bulldogs’ first call, at No.14.
Big-bodied midfielder Hately, who has featured in 13 games in his two years at the Giants, remains in Sydney this off-season.

Essendon list boss Adrian Dodoro has confirmed Port Adelaide need to stump up more than a second-round pick to secure Orazio Fantasia, who he says is prepared to return to the Bombers if a trade can’t be struck.
Fantasia has told the Bombers he wants to return to Adelaide for family reasons and has nominated the Power as his club of choice after speaking with Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley.
It is understood the Power is willing to part with a second-round pick for Fantasia and currently holds Pick 28, but that could balloon into the 30s by draft night after academy picks and compensation are factored in.
Port Adelaide don’t have a first round pick, and Dodoro said the Power would need to make Essendon a convincing offer for the contracted Fantasia.
“If something is on the table that we think is fair then we are happy to talk,” he said on Trade Radio.
“It is incumbent on them to come to us at this point of time.
“Pick 28 will blow out into the mid 30s in this draft which is heavily compromised, so that’s not really appealing for us.”
Dodoro said Fantasia was prepared to play for Essendon in 2021 if a trade could not be struck, despite two trade periods where he has been heavily linked with a return to Adelaide.
“He comes from a really close family and he wants to get home for family reasons, that’s ultimately why he’d like to get home,” he said.
“But we’ve spoken with Orazio and I spoke to him on Friday actually and although he would like to get back to Adelaide he still does have a contract
“Our situation is quite clear, we actually rate him quite highly as a player and he hasn’t been able to get on the park in the last couple of years and show just how good he is but he is an electrifying forward.
“He is over his injuries so there is no reason why he can’t have a great career here for us.”
The Advertiser reported on Tuesday Fantasia back in Adelaide but his pathway to Alberton would be far from smooth.
It’s understood the Power is willing to part with a second-round pick for Fantasia and currently holds Pick 28, but that could balloon to 30 or beyond by draft night with compensation and academy picks still to be factored in.
But Essendon is reportedly demanding a first-round draft pick for Fantasia which the Power does not have.
Rebound defender Riley Bonner’s name has been publicly linked to a possible trade but he still has a year left on his contract at Port Adelaide and has not been told to prepare for a move to the club he supported as a kid.
Bonner’s manager Dave Trotter said he would be very surprised if the 23-year-old was traded at all.
Port Adelaide is keeping some of its draft picks handy to ensure it secures next generation Academy prospect Lachie Jones and is not expected to be an active player in this year’s trade market.
Despite Port Adelaide declaring its interest in Sydney defender Aliir Aliir, that move is unlikely to happen given the Swans want a ruckman in return and have reportedly set their sights on Tom Hickey at West Coast.
At the Crows their priority is securing GWS youngster Jackson Hately which is expected to cost them either at least Pick 32 or 39 which would be seen as a bargain for the 2018 No. 14 selection.
Hately, from Central District, has played just 13 games in two years for the Giants due to limited opportunities and has declared his intention to join the Crows this trade period.
Another South Australian who may be on the way home is Brisbane’s Mitch Hinge who has played just three games since being rookie listed and is out of contract but yet to be officially cut by the Lions.
Kyle Hartigan is set to join Hawthorn on a three-year deal after the Crows were not willing to go beyond a one-year contract for the key defender who turns 29 on Saturday.
Hartigan was eligible to join the Hawks a free agent but his arrival may have diluted the compensation Hawthorn stands to receive for losing Isaac Smith to Geelong and so a trade is more likely.
The Hawks have three picks in the 40s but may use a future selection to secure Hartigan who has played 113 games at Adelaide.
