THE TACKLE: THESE BOMBERS HAVE ATTITUDE

RAGE TRADES: THE SUPERCOACH PLAYERS WHO HAVE TO GO

1. GWS GIANTS 12 139.8%

Deledio’s best game for the Giants while Coniglio will surely be top-three in the Brownlow after four rounds. Greene’s return changes this team, while Taranto’s work in close is vital. Injuries: Cameron (knee). SuperCoach: Coniglio finally dipped below 120 ... to 116.

2. WEST COAST 12 136.1%

Suddenly they have emerged as a contender with Kennedy back in, Darling going through a purple patch and Cripps grabbing the crumbs. The top four has a distinct interstate feel about it. Injuries: Venables (ankle), Redden (leg), Shuey (ankle). SuperCoach: Yeo’s best so far with 150.

3. RICHMOND 12 130.1%

Could a midfielder/Brownlow medallist win the Coleman a year later? If Dusty plays forward enough, then why not? A feature of this team was disposal efficiency and the pressure from Conca and Lambert. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Dusty (141) was back among it after last week’s blip.

4. HAWTHORN 12 126.6%

And they are doing it all without much from an unusually ineffective Cyril. But we all know that will change soon enough. O’Meara is getting more assured each week and took up the Mitchell slack. Injuries: Rioli (knee), Puopolo (hamstring), Frawley (migraine). SuperCoach: Jones kept Mitchell (91) quiet.

5. PORT ADELAIDE 12 117%

Too many passengers. You want names? Try Dixon, Hartlett, Motlop and Rockliff, the latter being barely recognisable from the prolific ball winner at Brisbane. Injuries: Marshall (concussion), Rockliff (calf). SuperCoach: Robbie Gray (145) was one of only three to crack the ton.

6. SYDNEY SWANS 12 108.4%

Who in the comp has the physical attributes (speed, height, strength) to match up on Buddy? Probably only Rance with Tom Lonergan retired. Parker is back to his 2016 form when second in the Brownlow. Injuries: Franklin (shoulder). SuperCoach: Heeney (120) hasn’t dipped below 100 yet.

7. NORTH MELBOURNE 8 133.9%

Anderson, who for so long has looked lost at AFL level, might just be about to reward North’s patience as he builds his defensive game. Vickers-Willis is finally getting an uninterrupted run and blossoming. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Brown had a blinder, his five goals helping him to 167.

8. GEELONG 8 109.4%

Cunico has a pleasing turn of speed, while Parfitt is heading in a very promising direction given he combines vision, clean hands with an excellent tackling technique. Injuries: Gregson (ankle). SuperCoach: Parfitt (168) posted close to double his average.

9. ADELAIDE 8 107.3%

Jenkins was back to playing like a small forward, Tex huffed and puffed but failed to blow any Magpies down. Plus Lynch and Betts were poor, which equates to an ordinary forward line. Injuries: Betts (hamstring), Mackay (head). SuperCoach: Laird remained his reliable self with 129.

Brodie Grundy is the form ruckman of the competition.

10. COLLINGWOOD 8 106.7%

They chose well when handing out Daics’ number 35 to Stephenson. As for Grundy, he’s on target to become the club’s finest ruckman since Len Thompson. The eight? Why not shoot higher? Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Stephenson (115) rewarded those who started with the rookies.

12. ESSENDON 8 99.2%

Smith provided exactly what they wanted which is frenetic forward half pressure, while Hurley continues to challenge Rance as the AFL’s premier defender. But why is Hurley given so much space? Injuries: Stewart (ankle). SuperCoach: Myers (121) was the surprise top-scorer. Well done if you held Merrett (107).

12. MELBOURNE 8 98.1%

So much promise, so much anticipation and they go and serve that rubbish up. Maybe it comes with experience — and they are young — but their lack of contested effort in the second half was unacceptable. Injuries: Jetta (leg). SuperCoach: Oliver (137) rebounded after a quiet week.

13. FREMANTLE 8 89.4%

The kind of game they needed to make a statement in. McCarthy had plenty of motivation against his old team but didn’t fire a shot and the irritant Ballantyne was equally unsighted. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Sandilands was back on song with 139.

14. GOLD COAST 8 83%

Like their northern neighbours, a horror story after early promise. But they remain a young side so all the more important for experienced heads like Day and Rischitelli to get a kick. Injuries: Ainsworth (concussion), Lynch (ankle). SuperCoach: Swallow (129) the only one to muster a ton.

15. WESTERN BULLDOGS 4 71.9%

Shouldn’t have lost but at least their bark is back. Macrae is their most consistent performer. But they desperately a forward/ruckman. Hang on, they have one named Boyd. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Suckling was best (123).

16. ST KILDA 4 68%

They looked small at times and again lack one or two game-changing players. They have the salary cap room to attract a gun free agent, but will they be an attractive destination? Injuries: Roberton. SuperCoach: Dunstan backed up last week’s ton with 120. But where’s Billings?

17. BRISBANE LIONS 0 64%

A couple of steps forward then a giant one backwards, which is typical of young teams. Hipwood is a shadow of last year but another kid in Rayner showed what all the fuss is about. Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Witherden and Andrews topped 100 and rookie Rayner posted a none-too shabby 97.

18. CARLTON 0 61.2%

Two years of solid growth, so how in the hell did it get to this? And right now it is hell because even their hopes for the future are struggling. They appear incapable of adopting an attacking game plan. Injuries: Murphy (foot). SuperCoach: Did we pick the wrong Curnow? Ed scored 126 and is averaging 114.

More pain for the Blues.
