The Cats

Besides Sam Menegola (59), Geelong’s SuperCoach forward starred against the Bombers with the most-popular player in the game Patrick Dangerfield ($660,500) leading the way with 128 points in 68 per cent game-time while the classy Tim Kelly ($505,800) finished with 110 points, on the back 28 disposals, 11 contested possessions and a goal. But the biggest surprise came from a man forgotten about in SuperCoach circles, Luke Dahlhaus ($418,300). The former Bulldog spent time through the midfield in the Cats’ final pre-season match, tallying 25 disposals, 10 contested possessions and eight tackles. I’m still not going near him.

Aaron vandenBerg (Melb) $283,400

97 points

The 27-year-old is at the lower end of the mid-price bracket and the he showed his SuperCoach scoring potential against the Lions, tallying 18 disposals and a huge 16 tackles in the final week of the JLT Series. He’s worth some thought after missing most of last season through injury.

Mitch Robinson (Bris) $496,600, Mid

115 points

Brisbane’s enforcer reminded the SuperCoach community he’s a genuine option in 2019 with an impressive performance against the Demons. Robinson, who averaged 91 points per game last year, recorded 24 disposals, 13 contested possessions, four inside 50s, four rebound 50s and 115 points.

Zac Bailey (Bris) $275,900, Mid

82 points

The 19-year-old has been moved to defence as coach Chris Fagan’s look to utilise his explosive off half-back. And, so far, it’s working with Bailey tallying 21 disposals — at 86 per cent efficiency and eight rebound 50s against the Demons.

James Worpel (Haw) $395,700

73 points

It didn’t translate into a big SuperCoach score, largely thanks to six clangers, but Worpel played a significant role in the Hawks’ engine room again in week two. The second-year midfielder finished with 24 disposals, 13 contested possessions and a team-high nine clearances. He’s been impressive but is still too expensive for mine.

Jack Higgins had an impressive JLT Series.

Jack Higgins (Rich) $392,700

99 points

Another impressive performance from the second-year Tiger, tallying 19 disposals, 10 contested possessions and three goals in the come-from-behind victory over the Hawks. The 19-year-old played predominantly as a forward but pushed into the centre square in the last quarter — expect that to happen on a regular basis in 2019. F3 anyone?

Tom Papley (Syd) $383,400

140 points

A complete game from the 22-year-old who split his time between the forward line and the midfield against the Suns. Papley finished with 27 disposals, 12 contested possessions, seven tackles, five marks and a goal but it’s hard to say with confidence this role will continue come Round 1.

Rowan Marshall (StK) $341,100

112 points

Ideally, the Saints want him as a forward but in the absence of injured duo Billy Longer and Lewis Pierce, Marshall showcase his scoring potential as the No. 1 ruckman against the Bulldogs. The 23-year-old, who has played 23 career games, tallied 18 disposals, six tackles, five marks, 37 hitouts and 112 points.

Jack Billings (StK) $437,600

80 points

Not a huge SuperCoach score but, in another great sign, Billings spent the entire game roaming up-and-down the win, finishing with 25 disposals, nine marks and seven contested possessions. The skilful Saint won 58 per cent of possession in the defensive half in the JLT Series — that number was 43 in the regular season last year.

David Mundy (Fre) $520,900

90 points

It looks as if the midfield move is definitely on with the Docker veteran winning a team-high 13 contested possessions to go with 24 disposals and four clearances against the Eagles. Mundy is in the conversation for the F3 spot in many SuperCoach teams — and rightly so.

Willie Rioli (WC) $318,700

147 points

The exciting third-year Eagle had a day out in the final match of the JLT Series, finishing with 19 disposals, seven marks, five tackles and four goals against the Dockers. Don’t expect three figures from Rioli on a regular basis this season.

Could you pick Jack Darling at F3 in SuperCoach?

Jack Darling (WC) $471,700

96 points

The key-forward followed up his 101-point performance in the first week of the pre-season competition with 18 disposals, eight marks and 96 points against the Dockers. Darling’s final score would’ve been higher if it wasn’t for four behinds. Consider.

Jack Petruccelle (WC) $123,900

87 points

After a quiet game against the Cats in the first week, the second-year speedster all-but confirmed his spot in the Eagles Round 1 forward line with an impressive 87-point performance, on the back of 16 disposals, 11 contested possessions and two goals. Put him on your bench.
