SuperCoach Round 8 market watch: Is it too late to trade in Ben Ronke?

DID Sydney youngster Ben Ronke price himself out of the market with a 120-point game on Friday night, or is there more money to make with a smart trade? Plus Round 8 team of the week.

Ben Ronke of the Swans.

IS IT too late to get on the Ben Ronke bandwagon?

The Sydney youngster had an extraordinary third game on Friday night, kicking seven goals straight and recording 10 tackles to score 120 points against Hawthorn.

That caused his value to spike by more than $90,000 to $214,700.

RAGE TRADES: THE PLAYERS YOU MUST TRADE NOW

BAROMETER: INJURY LATEST FROM EVERY CLUB

That was a great result for the 10,200 players who traded him in on the bubble.

It was equally frustrating for the almost 54,000 who brought in Charlie Spargo (49) instead.

Ronke still has a lot more money to make. Ronke’s break-even this week is -57 and he is expected to rise another $66,000 if he scores 93 against Fremantle.

That might be a touch optimistic but even if he scores around the 60 mark for the next two weeks he will go up another $80-90,000.

SuperCoach tragic Brice Mitchell (@bricemitchell) published detailed calculations on Twitter showing the Ronke rocket will flame out at just over $300,000 in Round 11.

Is it worth using a trade for a quick cash injection?

The answer to that might depend on how many trades you have left and the state of your forward line.

Ben Ronke had a night out against the Hawks. Can he back it up?

The 26,000 coaches carrying Jack Billings or 38,000 with Christian Petracca would be very tempted to cut their losses and make a bit over $100,000 on a move to Ronke.

Billings has already lost $162,000 and will head further south with a break-even of 98 against Collingwood. He is averaging 62 over his past five games and just 53 over his past three. He is projected to bottom out in two weeks at about $325,000.

Petracca is down $66,000 and has a break-even of 132.

WHAT THE? WEIRD MOMENTS YOU MISSED FROM ROUND 8

WIN $265,000: PERFECT 9 JACKPOT CLOSER THAN YOU THINK

The carrot could be Port Adelaide star Robbie Gray who dropped $13,000 despite scoring 122 in the Showdown. He is now $561,000 which is about as cheap as he’ll get (break-even 110 against Gold Coast) and he’ll be a very attractive target after the Power’s Round 10 bye.

Coincidentally, that’s when Ronke will peak in price. Add the $100k you get for Billings/Petracca this week to the $200k you can make by downgrading Ronke and it’s enough to turn a successful forward rookie like Bayley Fritsch into Gray.

Pretty tempting.
