Catch up on the 10 weird and wonderful moments you missed during a massive Round 8
MELBOURNE supporter Ned Trumble sent social media into meltdown last year when a photo emerged of his game day food spread featuring semi-sun-dried tomatoes, green olives and more. But has his menu been topped?

JUST how observant were you during Round 8?
We know you probably saw Ben Ronke’s seven-goal haul for the Swans, Essendon completely falling apart and another epic Showdown. But did you also catch a few of the off-Broadway highlights from the weekend?
From Clayton Oliver being left in Brisbane to an awkward Roaming Brian encounter and some questionable fan decisions, here are the 10 things you missed in Round 8.

POOR OLD CLAYTON!
Nothing beats going interstate, belting an opposition side from pillar to post and then celebrating with your teammates all the way back to Melbourne.
Clayton Oliver was able to enjoy two of those things over the weekend before the Demons had to leave him at the Gabba.
Following his 29-disposal and 11 tackle game against Gold Coast on Saturday night, Oliver was required to take a drug test after the match.
The only problem was, he didn’t need to go to the bathroom.
As his teammates left the stadium and headed to the airport, Oliver was stuck at the Gabba waiting to pee.
By the time he could complete the test, his fellow Demons were already in the air and he had missed the last flight home.
“Poor Clayton had a drug test and you’ve got to pee in a cup,” his teammate Tom McDonald explained on Sunday.
“You’ve got to get a certain amount of mils. He only got 90mls so he missed the flight, he is still there.
“He had to wait at the ground for two hours, which is not uncommon, guys who can’t pee after a game and so he is there and his bag got shipped back so he is there with no clothes.”
‘I DON’T THINK THAT’S HIS JOB’
Leon Cameron had a lot on his mind on Saturday afternoon, watching his Giants suffer a rare home loss at the hands of West Coast.
But with so much on his plate already, he didn’t think he’d also be asked to run water for his players.
As he was giving a message to Giants recruit Lachie Keefe at quarter time, Keefe handed Cameron his water bottle before running away.
What was Keefe expecting Cameron to do with it? Who knows!
A bemused Cameron ended up hurling the bottle to someone arguably less important than himself.
Keefe’s former teammate Alex Fasolo saw the funny side in the exchange.

RETURN OF THE CHEESE PLATTER
Last year Ned Trumble, also known as the Melbourne cheese man, set the internet alight when his amazing platter of food was captured at a Demons game.
The stunning array of goodies included semi-sun-dried tomatoes, green olives, avocado and some baguettes.
But after less than a year holding the “best cheese platter in football” crown, Trumble finally has some competition.
A photo has emerged of an Adelaide fan who brought their own cheese platter to the Showdown.
As a general rule, anyone who brings a cheese platter to the footy is a winner. But if we had to pick who did it better, the title still sits with the red and blue!
GOWERS GOES BIG
No one saw Carlton’s win over Essendon coming. No one except Western Bulldogs rookie Billy Gowers.
Leading up to the clash, Gowers, who was originally drafted by the Blues before being picked up by the Dogs, took to Twitter to unleash his bold prediction.
The blues will beat the dons tomorrow, theyâll be hungry and up for the wet pill, Ed Curnow and Crippa to have 60+ touches between them #AFLBluesDons
â billy gowers (@billgowers) May 11, 2018
While part two came up a little short, Curnow and Cripps combined for 51 touches, they were still two of the Blues’ best.
However, he gets nothing short of 10 out of 10 for the original call.
ROAMING BRIAN GETS A LITTLE WEIRD
You never know what you’re going to get from Roaming Brian. And that was never more evident than on Friday night.
BT was chatting to Sydney’s Kieren Jack about the red robe he was wearing after the match.
The interview was pretty normal, until Taylor tested out how soft the robe was … by rubbing his face on it.
Jack then got the last word in before clearing out.
“We will get one in your size,” he said.

WHAT CAN’T BT DO?
Speaking of BT, it is becoming more and more evident that there is nothing he can’t do.
Not only is he one of the leading commentators on Channel 7 and Triple M as well as the mastermind behind Roaming Brian, it turns out he is also an umpiring coach.
Luke Hodge outed Brian on Sunday when he was taking the boundary umpires through their paces at the MCG.
Hodge suggested Taylor was showing the whistleblowers exactly how to hit the 18m mark with their throw-ins.
CAT MAN VS HAWK MAN
For years we have watched the Geelong and Hawthorn rivalry evolve.
But it doesn’t just stop with the players. The supporters have taken things to a new level.
For almost a decade Geelong has had “Cat Man” undoubtedly the most committed fan in the AFL.
But now the Hawks finally have a counter. “Hawk Man” made his debut on Friday night and left no doubt who he was barracking for.
The only question is, who wore it better?
WHAT WAS THIS FAN THINKING?
As the Sydney Swans ran onto the ground on Friday night, one fan wanted to remember the action forever by recording it on his … laptop!?
That’s right! The fan hung his laptop over the fence so he could remember the moment forever.
It was an interesting idea but we can’t see it surpassing the iPhone camera just yet.
COMMENTARY CLANGER?
Players are called out for clangers all the time. So on Saturday night, Michael Barlow took his revenge.
Watching Ed Phillips make his debut for the Saints, Barlow picked up on an interesting piece of commentary from Channel 7’s James Brayshaw.
James Bradshaw âHereâs Phillips, his first kick in the AFL and its not his best...â Id say it probably was...
â Michael Barlow (@mjbarlow20) May 12, 2018
Zing!
Maybe Barlow is just getting warmed up for a media career post playing days.
ONCE AN UNSOCIABLE HAWK …
Once an unsociable Hawk, always unsociable Hawk.
That is what it looked like during the pre-season when Mitch Robinson posted this photo with his new teammate Luke Hodge.
But now Hodge has provided the background.
“We had a training session down in Tassie where he came in to tackle me and I’ve gone to fend him off but it looks like I’ve punched him. It was put in the paper.
“He played it up for social media … but it didn’t look good,” Hodge joked.
Given Robinson’s status as one of the game’s biggest pests, a few players may have wanted to “pull a Hodgey” on the field as well.
